Kamen Estate Wines

Moon Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Shay A

I’m between a 94-95 here. Not sure why I don’t buy more of these, especially at the price. Wow.

I poured this in a decanter upon opening, but it actually was quite nice at pop…then changed an hour later, and after corking to finish the remaining third later in the evening, it was even more of a beast. Bit of a chameleon, this one, in regards to its approachability. 100% cab. Dark royal purple in the glass. Aromatically it sports a lot of graphite, blackberries, black currant, mulberries, and espresso. Structure here is compact and big in style, but it’s so beautifully integrated. Palate shows the same type of dusty/graphite influence alongside the darker berry profile, with dark cocoa, and a streak of black cherry and mineral at the core that gives it some spice and lift. Good to open today if you can give it a 1-2hr decant, but easily cruises for the next few years.

This was poured alongside a 2013 Hidden Ridge 55degree slope and the 2014 Immortal (formerly Hidden Ridge). Since all three sported a good bit of Sonoma fruit, it was a cool experiment. The Kamen seemed the most balanced and structured, whereas the 2014 Immortal was the most extracted and over the top. The 2013 HR was in the middle.

@Ron R : I’m not, but a local buddy is. I need to get on it myself!

Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

WOTN!!! Age did wonders for this wine. Dark gold color. Nose of vanilla, oak, and even some mango. Medium plus depth and tastes like a high-end White Burgundy. Buttery finish that lasts a while. Awesome!! — 4 days ago

Home Field Fort Ross Seaview Pinot Noir 2018

Doing a meet the meat event at B&B Butchers. This was the starter wine. Ok but not the best for a big meat dinner. This bottle says “Sea Field” so I think this isn’t a match. — 8 days ago

CIX Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Easily one of the best Aubert pinots we’ve had in a while, this wine is drinking perfectly. Definitely needs to be at cellar temp - a bit warmer and it loses a bit of its backbone - but it is fantastic. Beautifully rich aromatics, incredibly juicy on the palate, and perfectly balanced through a lingering finish. I doubt this is going to get much better in the next few years - may be peaking now - so I’d recommend opening it sooner rather than later. — 3 days ago

Baus Family Vineyards

Private Reserve Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Deep brick and garnet in color. Tart cherry, spice, and a hint of blackberry on the nose. Sharp, tart taste: cherry up front, then oak and vanilla and plum. Decant well or leave in the bottle another few years. — 2 days ago

Estate Riesling 2020

Acid wash. Underripe tropical fruit. Touch of white lilies. Pretty wine from a pretty winery. Wanted something a tad sweeter with spicy Indian food, but a refreshing wine from a vintage most of us would rather forget. — 11 days ago

Sonoma County Chardonnay 2016

Per color I thought oak 🙄 but actually it is there and provides a nice balance..vanilla pudding. Fruit sourced from several Vineyards adding complexity.
I am getting orchard fruits, tropical fruits, mild petrol (lemon oil) especially on the finish which adds an unusual quality and minerals!
WE vintage chart...92 can drink but not yet at peak. Peeps..I use this as a very soft guide.

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2015

Medium lemon with aromas of honey, bruised apple fruit with toasty oak notes. On the palate ripe apple, vanilla and toasty oak flavors, extremely savory on medium+ finish ending with fruit and smoky spice character. — 3 days ago

An serendipitous find in a Eurocave left by a prior owner of a friend’s house. What luck. Thanks to those peeps for leaving it and thanks to the Hirsch family for making great wine! — 4 days ago
