Just love mountain fruit from Napa, elevation, 1,800 to 2,400 feet Dark Ruby with aromas of berry fruits, herbs and earthy spice, On the palate flavors of black cherry, raspberry, currant and licorice with notes of espresso, mocha and earthy tones. Good balance, lively acidity, fine ripe dusty tannins, long finish ending with fruit, cedar and herb pepper spice! Tried a sample, very enjoyable but needs more time, still young! — 20 days ago
This was one of my wines from my annual WWC hosting. The other whites were Bereche Brut Reserve for the champagne, a 2015 Bongran EJ Thevent (burgundy) Chardonnay and a 2017 Moone-Tsai Ritchie Chardonnay.
Color me impressed. I have enjoyed Calera’s pinots quite a bit, but I haven’t had as much experience with the Chardonnay’s. It was almost like a Aubert Larry Hyde “lite”. As this was tasted blind, most guessed this was Chardonnay, but lots of back and forth on where it would be from. Initially, this toed the line between steely and slightly oaked with bright citrus, lemon, clean aromatics…but after an hour in the glass, this really bulked up and sported a down-the-middle type medium bodied profile. Not lean, not powerful. The tart lemon turned to a more lemon cream profile with lots of floral/honeysuckle notes, alongside herb crusted yellow fruits. No problem opening now, but I’d love to try another one of these in a few years. 92+ — 23 days ago
Medium ruby (not as dark as I expected); a fair amount of volatile acidity right upon opening, so I let it blow off for awhile; medium plus intensity aromas of blackberry fruit leather, dried black plum, black cherry, black raspberry, vanilla; dry, medium acid, medium ripe tannins, high alcohol, full body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; not as concentrated as I was expecting — 20 days ago
Wine from our realtor Kyle when we bought the house in Frisco. Enjoyed with steak and salad and bread — 21 days ago
Incredibly concentrated, opulent #stmacaire #mtveeder single varietal from Nice Wines. One of the most concentrated wines I’ve ever poured, inky dark purple, leaves color on the sides of the glass. Tsunami wave aromas of dark bramble fruit, cassis, purple plum, backed by layers of baking spice, underbrush, dried herbs. Lush acidity on first taste, fine textured tannins, some dark chocolate on the trailing finish. Beautiful wine that makes the most of great Napa mountain fruit. — 12 days ago
Consistent with my last notes. Bramble mountain fruit, violets, black pepper. Complete and integrated front to back, including the fine tannins at the finish. Wonderful wine. — 16 days ago
Light, lively and lively. I’m really enjoying this one. So happy I bought several bottles. Works well as an aperitif wine while cooking dinner and with the main event. — 19 days ago
