Montagne St. Émilion, Libournais

Château Fleur Cardinale

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Drank 12 /7/23.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

Scents of plum, blackberry, currant, and chocolate. Flavors are similar, with blackberry, plum sauce, and soil. Tannins are still firm, but, well integrated and mix with black fruits on the long finish. This one goes on for over a minute. Drinking well now, but showing no signs of slowing down. This should last another 10 plus years, but is in a nice place now.

Great with a NY strip, but even better with the balsamic glaze that complimented it. This pairs wonderfully with sweet dark fruit flavors.

Château Cheval Blanc

I had the CB 05 just about a year ago. Might be some bottle variation but this one felt a bit more raw and green than my previous encounter. Still amazing. Just a small observation. — 15 days ago

This wine needed a little more time to breathe but still rocked our evening. Clearly has another 20 + years. — 3 days ago

Chateau de Valandraud

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1999

Pretty good at 24 years old. Still in mid-life, solid res fruit, underlying Brett (not a problem for me), and easy drinking. But this wine got major hype way back when and prices soared. PR better than the quality. — 22 days ago

Comtes de Neipperg St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

While I enjoyed this 2017 it would have been so much better with a little more aging. I would definitely get it again and hang onto it for a few years. — 5 days ago

Château Canon-la-Gaffelière

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

2005 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 15 mins, 45 mins and 2 hrs. Throwing decent sed. Great color. Overt baby fat from this producer dissipated but plenty of the usual, front-palate richness found in the first decade of life still evident. In “the zone” currently. Medium bodied. Not improving but tasting like it’s closer to the front of “the zone”than the mid-section or the caboose. Flavors, concentration and overall impression sez this continues to gallop along in this lane and at this pace for another decade before fading noticeably. 11.5.23. — a month ago
