The 2006 was not cheap back then but compared to the price of current vintages it was an absolute steal! Winemaker John Simes signed the bottle and we were sorry to see it go but it was time to drink up. Polished, sleek and very well put together! Black as pitch, red fruit and plums with a lovely whiff of violets, the palate was redolent with black fruit flavours and silky smooth tannin. Garnet red, very good clarity, lightly extracted pigment. Floral, cherry candy notes in nose. Cherry candy flavors with some grip and bitterness in finish on initial pour. Nice length of fruit in mouth, even from first pour. Some eucalyptus, phenol and barrel smoke emerge after 20 minutes. Bright, slightly tart. Still evaluating… — a month ago
