Margaux, Médoc

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. That big-boned, Malescot body with plushy fruit. A dollop of astringency on the back end. Love me don’t hate me tannins. Meh nose. This juice has nowhere to go but up. Über-drinkable now but not performing in certain categories currently. Wouldn’t hurt to revisit in a year or two. — 5 days ago

Holding a little back and not the best of years but I love this producer great black fruit, solid but supportive oak and wonderful trail to the end of forest floor — 6 days ago

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Ming L

Subtle purple floral note is the exclamation mark for the deep nose of plum, cassis, eucalyptus, baking spices, and damp forest floor. The medium to full body is nicely sculptured. Just barely entering the drinking window, but promising tannins and acidic structure.

2014 is a very good vintage that’s often overshadowed by the great 15 and 16, and where good bargains can be found.

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1983

Birthday wine. Was skeptical when I tasted right after I opened but with a few hours of air opened up beautifully. Tertiary notes of mushrooms, leather and tobacco but still plenty of fruit characteristics which makes me suspect this vintage will only continue to shine. Thankfully have 2 more bottles left — 7 days ago

Chateau Dauzac

Aurore de Dauzac Margaux Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2018

I bought this a Costco because I don’t think I had ever see a Margaux for $20(!). I was not disappointed. I generally love Margaux, though I find that they can sometimes be finicky, requiring decanting and lots of breathing before they fully reveal themselves. Not so this. It’s easy to drink on your terms, not the wine’s, and, in this way, it is faintly redolent of the New World, but I don’t mean that as a pejorative. Just pop it open and go. Very easy. Uncomplicated The wine itself is delicious. The texture seems slightly thicker to me, and this may be due, in part, to the higher alcohol content of this wine (14.5%) when compared to what I normally associate with Bordeaux. Overall, it has a nice balance of stone fruits and tannins, and, even if somewhat thicker and, perhaps, less distinguished than other wines from Margaux, it’s an enjoyable bargain. Highly recommend! — 2 days ago

Château Brane-Cantenac

Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Obvs an infant. Well-integrated nose…tough to pick out individual/standout component(s) currently. Light-bodied. Super dry with plenty of dark cherry intensity. Needs at least a half-decade before it decides to play. — 19 days ago

Château Prieuré-Lichine

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2015 vintage. Last tasted 7.28.21 and 6.1.21. Smoke, coriander, roasted nuts and dark cherry still wafting throughout the nose but it’s picked up a leather/cedar habit to add to the dossier. Consistently medium-bodied altho starting to transition ever so slightly to light medium body. Baby fat almost completely gonzo. Finish maintaining balanced fruit/acidity and keeping a 30+ second wave goodbye. Cocoa powder that was dancing circles around the endgame palate six weeks ago is on vacation. — 11 days ago
