Deep garnet with a ruby hue. A bit mute to start on the nose with some smoked meats, white spices and dusty. A little bit of dark fruits and floral notes with some air. Very smoky, burnt wood, cigar box and leather right away on the nose, integrated with nice black currant, red cherry, plum and blueberry. Medium+ body, high acidity, grippy tannins, nice mocha and dark chocolate on the palate. Little bit over-oaked in my opinion, reserved style. The Terrasse is a white blend that gets its name from Keermont’s terraced vineyards. It is a blend of Chenin Blanc from a 46 year old un-irrigated vineyard called 'Riverside' and is complimented by Chenin from two younger vineyards and varying fractions of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.

The nose is a little shy. Cut grass, understated; lemon, lime, pineapple, green melon and white peach. Soft chalkiness & minerality, light saline, white & yellow flowers.

The body is light and lively. Understated; lemon, lime, pineapple, green melon, white peach, honeysuckle a little cut grass, soft chalkiness & minerality, light saline, white & yellow flowers. Beautiful acidity and elegant, ripe, well balanced finish that persists softly in the mouth.

We also tasted his 2013 Cabernet Reserve & his 2016 Fluerfonein (sticky Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc wine) but, I didn’t have time to write notes as we had to get to another appointment. 🤷‍♂️ Both good and worth seeking out.

Fifth wine for Christmas at my Uncles house in South Africa. Deep garnet red with some bricking on the edges. Dark berries on the nose with some spices, and a little woody. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium to medium plus body. A bit chalky on the palate with dark cherries, bark, spices and a little vanilla. Medium plus to long finish. Drink till 2020. — 9 years ago

First of the reds in our South African blind tasting. This is the benchmark Pinot Noir for South Africa made by Emul Ross. Light to medium garnet red with light bricking on the edges. A touch earthy and smokey on the nose with some cherries. Medium plus acidity (6.5/10) and light tannins (4.5/10). Light plus to medium bodied with some cherries, a little petrol and floral with raspberries and some meaty notes. Medium plus to long finish. Needed a solid decant to open up and was better when I sneaked a peek on day two. Drink from 2018 till 2025. — 9 years ago

Fourth of the blind wines.

Deep ruby red. Nose started off quite tight, needs more than an hour and a half decant. Earthy nose with menthol notes, darker spices, cinnamon, a touch of dirty cellar, a little green, chalky and light dark berries. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Great structure with notes of red berries, oak, earth, herbaceous, minerality, and a touch vegetal. Very dry and long finish. Drink till 2024. (91+) — 9 years ago

The red fruits shine. They are bright, fresh with nice florals. Blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, blueberries and poached strawberries. Dark chocolate, mocha, caramel, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, tobacco with ash, dark rich soils, berry cola, steeped fruit tea, red fruit liqueur notes with fresh & withering dark & red florals.

The body is full with powdery, dusty, meaty, tarry and sticky tannins. The fruits are ripe, delicious and easy to drink now but, will benefit from 6-8 more years in bottle. Blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, blueberries and poached strawberries. Dark chocolate, mocha, caramel, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, dark spice with a little heat, tobacco with ash, dark rich soils, berry cola, steeped fruit tea, red fruit liqueur notes with fresh & withering dark & red florals. The acidity is round and beautiful. The long finish is ripe, juicy, well balanced, delicious and persist nicely.

A very interesting wine indeed, purchased about four years ago and forgotten about until about a week ago. Cab/Merlot/Malbec/Cab Franc from Stellenbosch. This wine is complex -- nose of smoke, ash, bacon fat. Entry has a smoked meat character, green pepper, truffle, blackberry middle. Finish that has some black pepper expression. Enjoyed alongside a pesto pizza with mushrooms, olives, and red pepper and complemented WELL. The finish of this wine is a little thin, and I was a little uninspired by that, hence the 90 rating. The front and middle were great both with or without food. — 8 years ago
