La Rioja Tempranillo Blend

R. López de Heredia

Viña Cubillo Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2013

Another great vintage of a wonderfully consistent Rioja. Made from fruit of vines that average 40 years old. Lots of aging in advance of this wine’s release. (And it’s considered a Crianza?) Aromas of blackberry, leather and dried rose petals. Blackberry and Black cherry on the pallet with a hint of orange peel. Hint of wood smoke on the finish. Dusty tannins and nicely balanced acidity. Solid QPR. — 4 days ago

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

with Chichi at el Xiringo. Balanced full-bodied Rioja (which tasted so much better than the exact same one we had back in HK). Red fruits with some oakiness (and some leathery notes too?). Paired with white tuna salad, grilled octopus and seafood paella for dinner. — 3 days ago

Hacienda El Indiano Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

Dark ruby colors with a generous nose of dried flowers, new leather, and old tobacco. A bit weaker than I hoped it would taste. Some dried citrus peel and dark berries. A touch of vanilla. Obscure spices. Ok structure, medium tannins. — 16 hours ago

Inspiración Selección Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2015

Bon vin qui se boit avec tout. Goûteux, pas trop sucré ni corsé, rien pour écrire à sa mère mais efficace ! Bon ratio qualité-prix. — 2 days ago

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2005

Served with the Vinlog System
👃Pretty pinot cherry flavors + cloves
👅The fruit is more dark. Earthy + tar. Midpalate is slightly thin. Some tannins that need time for resolution

Remaining wine was Slow Decanted in my fridge

DAY 11
👅Tannins are less than Day 1 but still noticeable. Purple fruit, earth & tar. Finishes nicely with fruit and licorice

I enjoyed this both days. Elegant and pretty but needs time to express itself and soften the tannins a bit. But I like it now and I love it’s potential🍷

Cune Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2017

Rioja crianza Tempranillo. Great common wine from Spain. 91 at wine spectator. Tempranillo grape forward - fruity and medium/full bodied. Lasting on the mouth. Smooth and goes well with almost anything. One of my favorite value wines. Salud, amor y pesetas y el tiempo para disfrutarlo. — 10 days ago

Viña Tondonia Rioja Rosé Blend 2011

Classic example of an aged Spanish rose with a hint of oxidation. Extremely dry, with definite savory rather than fruity notes. Orange color notes… watermelon/rhubarb notes and a long, nearly tart/bitter finish. Better as it warms…. — 6 days ago

Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2000

Marvelous 22-year old #rioja just shows how proper storage from a volume producer can yield so much enjoyment in a relatively inexpensive bottle. Opened and poured slightly cooled. Immediate bouquet much fresher than expected, crunchy red fruit, dried flowers. Acidity still vibrant on palate but red/black berry fruit was muted, as expected, but tannins had softened to a delicate texture. After 20-30 minutes in the glass the nose changed markedly with caramel, marzipan tertiary notes drifting out. Aged Rioja is an excellent flexible food-paring wine and proved ideal for a premium steakhouse experience.. Bacon-wrapped shrimp tasted delicious with this wine. — 17 hours ago

Las Beatas Tempranillo Blend 2017

This is a very small vineyard and one of the more intresseting wines from the new wave of Rioja Grand Crus. Old bush vines, 1,9 ha. Only 1,501 bottles were filled. You get the Tempranillo berries but apart from that this is quite unique. Not only for Rioja. Flowery nose. Pomegranate, cherries, licorice, incense, crushed rock. Herbs and mineral. More intellectual than hedonistic. But stil very enjoyable to drink. — 24 days ago
