From one of Coopers Hawk’s somms, the varietals include: “Bold and dark, Cabernet Sauvignon from the Unites States serves as the framework for this blend. This, along with other dark grapes like Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot, and Zinfandel comprise 78% of the blend. The French grapes all come from the warm Rhône Valley, which is known for producing rich, spicy wines. A combination of Syrah, Grenache, and Marselan complete the blend at 22%.” — 12 days ago

Drank 9\20\20. Nice with a bacon cheeseburger.

Medium nose of black and blue fruits with some spice and a bit of herbaceousness as well. Big, but balanced with cassis, blueberry, and a bit of spice all backed by medium plus tannins. Long finish and great balance. I can't think of too many good cabs for under $20, and this one delivers for closer to $10. Incredible value.

Royal City Washington Syrah 2013

This is the best Syrah I have had in a long time. Surprisingly, the color is on the lighter side like a northern Rhône and has a subtle nose. Cherries, blackberries, leather, charcoal, earth, and smoke combine into an incredible taste profile with no tannins whatsoever. Only needed about 15 minutes of air to reach this level of flavor. I’m not really a bourbon guy, but I’ve tried most of the ‘greats’. This was a very generous gift from a friend. I’ve had it before, and this was just as epic. It’s a stunning bourbon. Screw your Pappy’s, this is the real deal. There’s roses and floral notes at the start. A freshness you really don’t expect given the intensity of the alcohol (waaaay overproof) then an intensity of taste on the midpalate with all the caramel, and depth you’d expect of a great bourbon, but loads of complex secondary stuff. It’s a trip on the palate with a midpalate would be brutal in other hands given the alcohol level, but here it really sings. I’m a wine guy. This is incredible once you get over the shock of the alcohol. If you only splurge on one bourbon, for me, this is the one. — 4 days ago

"Isabelle" California Pinot Noir 2016

Very intense nose, explosive even but beautiful too of red fruits, spices and clearly some stems, but not too much and some new oak, which is very prominent on the palate though, the wine is delicious, very open but that oak is not quite digested yet. Good and different, needs time in the bottle.

Un nez explosif de fruits rouges, d’épices, très Pinot mais aussi in peu de vendanges entières et surtout du bois neuf, qui est très présent en bouche, c’est bon, ouvert et bien fait mais ce bois n’est pas digéré encore. A besoin de temps en bouteilles. 89-90

Family Reserve Shiraz 2018

Color of burgundy with hue of bloody grapefruit, quite clear and lighter compared to traditional Shiraz. Nose of coffee, aldehyde, cherry, a bit raspberry, cigar box, and ripe grapes. Taste of ample acidity plus sweetness form strawberry, a bit zesty, a bit salty indeed, medicinal syrup, and some more grapes. Aftertaste shows more zest, oak, and peppery note. I’ve enjoyed Garrison Brothers’ Bourbon for many years now, and have gone through more than my fair share of bottles. Now, at long last, I’ve decided to indulge once more and get another bottle so I can make my all-time favorite Old Fashioned (called the “Hye Fashioned,” which is served at Four Seasons Austin’s lobby bar/lounge, Live Oak).
