My first experience with a Friulian Pignolo...Wow..what a simply perfect pasta/pizza wine. Nice bright berry red color... medium weight on the palate...smoke, BlackBerry fruit, sweet red fruit and brilliant lively acidity...perfect foil to red tomato sauce and sausage pizza. Only problem being that the balance, refreshment quotient, and cravability mean a single 750 is not enough. Lost the battle w/wife for last swallow! What a great bargain for Saturday night red sauce! — 17 days ago
17- serious attack, with acidity and fruit. Unusual and interesting. — 3 days ago
Deep ruby color. Aromas of kirsch, licorice, hint of coffee on the nose. Palate of sweet berries that evolves into a medium finish with chewy tannins. — a day ago
Revisiting one of last years true revelations the 2017 Tenuta di Carleone Il Guercio, which at my very first encounter became a new favourit.
Sangiovese in its purest of forms, so vivid, so transparent yet so unique.
A highly defined nose of crushed, fresh but ripe red berries, followed by lavender and a perfumed incense character over a pronounced gravely carpet. Stunning texture on the palate with superfine but ever present tannins and a piercing acidity that carries the fruit through a long finish. A mesmerizing wine where there is a high change of getting lost in the glass. Paired with braised pork shoulder and tomato jus. — 7 days ago
Lots of oak on the nose followed by black cherry and plum. Palate is similar with a medium long finish of tobacco, coffee and vanilla. — 9 days ago
