Grgich Hills Estate

Napa Valley Fumé Blanc (Dry Sauvignon Blanc) 2017

Star bright straw gold. Abundant funky nose of burning citrus and funghi. Medium palate is much cleaner than the nose yielding toasted lemon, white guava, and white pepper with a bit of birch on the finish. Medium plus acidity. Medium finish. A fine example of California Fumé style SB. Okay as a sipper, but built for a meal. Swordfish and scallops come racing to mind, but any white fleshed fish or shellfish should pair wonderfully. Or just upscale your fried chicken. It’s good for that, too. Drink now through 2024. — 5 days ago

Domaine de la Côte

Bloom's Field Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2014

This was the wine featured in Somm 3 that was lighter in weight, more elegant & transparent than most Pinots I have tried showing cherry, strawberry, mineral, spice & floral notes showing good balance with nothing out of place. — 12 days ago

Domaine de la Côte

Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2015

Plush, jolly rancher. Mouthfeel is fat. All around, surprisingly unstylistic for DDLC. — 6 days ago

Fiddlestix Vineyard Pinot Noir 2005

Out of a .375. I was concerned as the cork crumbled as if it were made out of sand. Filtered multiple times as I tried to remove cork bits. Very spicy and floral on the nose . In the mouth a medley of red fruit and herbs . Very lively acids and almost resolved tannins. Not sure time will do much for the palate but it might add additional complexity to the nose. — 7 days ago

Maan, haven’t seen that winery in maybe 15 years? Remember the chards being pretty solid.

Santa Rita chard from a storied vineyard by the Terlato guys(!) It’s actually quite nicely balanced, solid effort — 4 days ago

Ken Wright Cellars

Canary Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Color of purple with ruby hue. Quite clear and nice legs. Nose of dark fruits, dried strawberry, aldehyde, oily and crayon, a bit smoky, and fragrance is refined. Taste follows the nose with addition of grapefruit sweetness, strawberry vanilla, zest, mineral, minty, simply quite tasty. Second sip shows some more zest and peppery. Good flavors. Aftertaste shows some more ripe grape and a bit too much bitterness. But still a good one. — 10 days ago

Sine Qua Non

Esto No Es Una Salida Grenache 2009

It was a Sine Qua Non night (which are always my favorites!). This was surprisingly tight given its age. Came back to it a couple of days later and it was SO MUCH better. If you have this in your cellar and are planning to pull it soon, I’d suggest a 4-hour decant to let it open up. It’ll be fantastic! — 10 days ago

John Sebastiano Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

2018 vintage. Great, full nose. Medium body. Not overtly fruity but just enough along with an elegant finish. Delish. — 9 days ago
