Green Valley, Sonoma County

MacRostie Winery & Vineyards

Pinot Noir Rosé 2021

Beautiful color of light pink with a peachy hue.

On the nose raspberries, sweet strawberries, limes, grapefruits, spices, light herbs and light sea salt.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with strawberries, green apples, grapefruits, herbs, spices, earth, light vegetables and black pepper.

Tangy finish with spices and bitter almonds.

This is an easy drinking Rosé from Sonoma Coast. A nice summer wine.

Fruity on the nose and earthier on the palate. Light and engaging. Crisp and refreshing.

Feels like a French Rosé with a touch of new world.

Better after 20 minutes of airtime, and will pair nicely with food. I had it all by itself by the beach.

13.3% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$30.

Beringer Vineyards

Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Deep Ruby for this Bordeaux blend, aromas of black fruits, herbs and sweet spice. On the palate rich flavors of blackberry and black cherry with smoky oak, leather, vanilla and cacao. Smooth tannins well balanced with savory acidity on a long finish ending with earthy mineral tones. Nice value! — 6 days ago

Christopher Tynan Wines

Judge Family Vineyard Syrah 2015

Popped and poured. At this stage the 2015 Judge Family Syrah pours an opaque, ruby color with some obvious staining of the tears. On the nose, clean and youthful with developing vinosity. Stewed red and blue fruits, dark brambles, purple flowers, bacon fat, dry caked earth, stale potpourri, rotondun, and cigar box. On the palate, the wine is dry and all of the notes from the nose are confirmed and accompanied by dark bramble fruit with some chocolate and smoked meat. Tannins are medium+, acid is medium+…and so is alcohol. The finish is long and tart…but more like a SweetTart. This is a very sexy wine with everything in the right places and the moves to match.

McKahn Family Cellars

Russian River Valley Viognier 2021

McKahn Family Cellars has a real gem with this Viognier, 2021. With a very nice low profile, grapefruit and lemon bouquet, this beautiful white wine tantalizes the tongue with Licorice and grapefruit. There is also a hint of green Apple in there. There is an oaky finish with a lingering tartness that drives you to take another sip. I’m not a real big white wine drinker, but for the hot summertime, this chilled on ice is a fantastic wine I highly recommend. — 7 days ago

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

This wine is inky looking and carries a wonderfully demonstrative package of aromas. The nose has classic notes of graphite, but also features black tea, sage, oregano and a healthy lump of earth - that good, Sonoma dirt. On the palate are bright cherries, tea, herbs and minerals. The tannins are firm without being overbearing and the acidity is quite refreshing. You could chill this wine and open it next to the grill this summer - or you could have in cooler weather with a beef stew. — 7 days ago

Bevan Cellars

Dry Stack Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Slightly hazy (unfined and unfiltered) straw gold. Inviting nose and medium bodied palate of underripe quince, citrus rind, and balsam with a bit of extra "texture" (light tannin?) from the process. Medium acidity shows from entry to lengthy, lemony finish. Russell Bevan does it again. A luscious California SB treated like it's baby boy, CS, yields a white wine that's ready for fuller fare like roasted pork or fowl, swordfish or shark, or a melange of firm roots and greens. Not your mother's SB. Drink now through 2025. — 11 days ago

Dutton Ranch Emerald Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Last bottle of this and it has held incredibly well. Tastes like it could still be a 2018 or 2019. Full bodied, dark berries, spice and licorice on nose. Was saving this for the salmon dinner but this may be gone before we even get to dinner. — 13 days ago

Cirq

Treehouse Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Completely enjoyable but this has peaked and receded. Great year and my only regret is saving it. Would have been better to plunge in and burn through asap. Now it’s still very up front but it’s a bit more astringent. The alcohol seems more pronounced. Not to say it was a chore to drink by any stretch. This is still an enjoyable bottle but I compare it to what it was and it is less but overall it’s still an enjoyable wine. — a day ago

Jordan Vineyard & Winery

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Founded 1972, Tom & Sally Jordan, from CO, went to CA’s wine country & produced inaugural vintage in 1976. A Fav of mine with a steak, and the ‘17 hits the mark! Blend of mostly Cab Sauv with Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruit, floral & spice. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry and fig with oak, sweet spice, leather & cacao notes. Rich tannins, well balanced and integrated with fruit & oak. Very Nice! — 10 days ago
