San Lorenzo di Verduno Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

This is showing beautifully right now, with a beguiling blend of orange peel, cassis, and anise aromas that carry over to the palette, where black cherries, balsamic notes, and a delicate mix of earthy autumnal spices provide a sensuous background. Soft mouthfeel with fine tannins that peek out a bit on the long finish, where the spiced citrus seems to last forever. Paired perfectly with pan-roasted wild mushrooms and dry-aged ribeye. — a day ago

Le Rocche del Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 1999

Opened a few hours prior to service and enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 1999 Le Rocche del Falletto pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of black cherry, raspberry, roses, tar, talcum powder, dried herbs, a touch of leather, some gravelly earth and a kiss of warm spices. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the note. The finish is long. I know it’s splitting hairs but I think I preferred this over the ‘96 Asili Riserva that we enjoyed alongside. There just seemed to be a bit more oomf. A lovely pairing with controfiletto di wagyu. Drink now through 2049. — a month ago

Asili Riserva Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1996

Opened a few hours prior to service and enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 1996 Asili, Riserva pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of Morello cherry, red flowers, some tar, leather, a touch of truffle, dry gravelly earth and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A great pairing with controfiletto di wagyu. Plenty of life left in this. Drink now through 2041. — a month ago
