Opened a few hours prior to service and enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 1999 Le Rocche del Falletto pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of black cherry, raspberry, roses, tar, talcum powder, dried herbs, a touch of leather, some gravelly earth and a kiss of warm spices. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the note. The finish is long. I know it’s splitting hairs but I think I preferred this over the ‘96 Asili Riserva that we enjoyed alongside. There just seemed to be a bit more oomf. A lovely pairing with controfiletto di wagyu. Drink now through 2049.

Blurry photo, not blurry wine. So precise and brilliant. Still quite primary, drinks much younger than its 20 years. Hold.
