Savigny les Beaune Pinot Noir 2018

Another dense young Boussey 18. Glorious fruit and minerals but a wall of tannin. Needs a 2+ hour decant. Nose is gorgeous cherries. Lipstick like intensity. I’ll be back. Texture gets softer and deeper with air. I love 18 but will take a while to get there. Incredible concentration and minerals. A great wine.

9.2 to 9.3 overnight. Superb earth and red fruits. Strawberry, gorgeous classic Burgundian aromas. Palate is super juicy and sleek. Great power and depth and unreal fruit. Delicious. Way better on day 2.

Les Taillepieds Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Look 👀 at my old note!!!! I questioned this wine. Burghs are tricky. Yet this one turned out quite simply great!!!!! Much more body than the Haisma a big wine from a top vineyard. Dark fruit components very dark cherries, plenty of tannins, astringent underripe peach, give it 4-5 more years. A benchmark wine. — 4 months ago

Checking in on some 18’s. Nose is soppy red cherries and tons of earth. Floral and complex with great breadth. Nifty little lieu-dit here. Palate is powerful, dense and tannic. But has a terrific core of fruit. Really gets to the back of the throat and love how the tannins are mineral inflected. Has the “broad” character of 2018 which will I think, like 1993, ultimately smooth out with age. More closed than last year but it’s all there. Will be back. Now with air it’s integrating more and sweetening up and the tannins are becoming more velvety — 24 days ago

Vieilles Vignes Meursault Chardonnay 2018

Awesome stuff. Tartly mineral, citrus, confectionary, rocks, butter, some vanilla. Great arc, seamless. Oak is prominent but works nicely. Really smooth and drinkable. — 3 months ago

Big exuberant nose. Soppy bright red cherries. Mid to late season. Loads of earth, moss and minerals underneath. Spice and florals as well after air. Palate is insanely juicy and dense but with next level freshness and depth. Fruit has energy for days. So pure and deep. Loads of tiny berry cherry intensity fruits here. A great 1er Cru Monthelie. Very exciting. Love this level for 2018 for now and for cellaring. Mouth coating and ripe tannins but also smothered and enclosed with minerals which also provide freshness. Epic. Drink now through 2038 or so. An ager but a great drink every day along the way. — 8 months ago

Les Champs Fulliots Monthelie 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

2017 is so so good for Monthelie. Terrific and spicy nose of sour cherries and mid season cherries. Huge licorice. Poised and focused. Gobs of earth and minerals. Juicy, clean and energetic. There is significant structure and purity. Lovely dusty but substantial tannins. Such laser focus and accessible giving 17 mid season cherry fruit. Really saps out on the finish. Long. — a year ago

Volnay Pinot Noir 2017

A lovely volnay, plush, generous and juicy. Cherries and some cooler purple fruit and autumnal tones. Finished is nicely structured and mineral with a refined powdered limestone texture — a month ago

Les Charmes Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

Muted on opening, developed nicely over three hours. Saline, lemon curd, oyster shell, powerful. Aromatics are on point—really beguiling and evocative. Buttery palate, wet stone, citrus. Many-faceted. Beautiful work. — 3 months ago
