Château Laville Haut Brion

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Vintage 1989 | 3/4 transparant, Italian rooftiles brown rim. A very intense bouquet: cedar, forrest wood, laurel, flint, cherries, só multi layered you tend to smell endless. Powerful taste, prominent bitters, still too young imo, the taste comes together with the entrecôte, awesome harmony. A benchmark for wine lovers. Fine that HB delivers to mark a special moment! Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

Échézeaux Pinot Noir 1999

1999 DRC Echezeaux. Drank side-by-side with the 1988 La Mission Haut Brion (which we decanted over 4 hours before serving) and it was a toss-up as to which we favored. Very different wines. The DRC was feminine, had more fruit (plum, dark cherry, cassis), and a refined elegance. It was the favorite early on. However, as the La Mission evolved, it became hard to decide which was the favorite. — 4 days ago

Le Clarence de Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Soft on the palette and luscious on the nose. Nice presence on sandalwood and oak. A bargain wine and vintage drinkable now or for another 5 years in the cellar. — 9 days ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2001

Strong Haut Brion from 2001. Opened about an hour before the steak course arrived, by which time it developed an more intense but a very pretty nose of black fruits, cedar, some tobacco and herbs. The mouth feel was good and stood up to a grass fed ribeye steak. 2001 isn’t a standout year but it is good shoulder vintage. — a month ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Just at its peak. Equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with just a touch of Cabernet Franc. Concentrated and dried cherry, blueberry and prune aromas with hints of mushroom, Forrest Floor and purple flowers. Same fruits on the pallet with a beautiful viscous texture and a touch of smoke on the finish. Dense and Full! What a treat! Thanks Kasey and Pete! — a month ago

Soil Specific Sauvignon Blanc 2019

👉 I’ve been excited to try this barrel-fermented and -aged Sauvignon Blanc from the Dry Stack Vineyard of Bennet Valley, Sonoma County, thanks to the amazing reviews from @Ron R. 🇺🇸 It’s actually a blend, comprised of 98% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Semillon, reminiscent of a Bordeaux Blanc (winemaker Jesse Katz actually studied winemaking in Haut-Brion, Bordeaux; it shows). @jkatzwine

👁 This wine has strong clarity and a medium lemon hue.

👃 It immediately captures 📷 and focuses my senses on its youthful, layered nose offering complex aromas of ripe guava, mango, tangerine sherbet, passion fruit sorbet, lemon pith, lemongrass, fennel, white rose, cherry blossom, vanilla, and toast. 👏👏👏👏

👄 On the palate this wine is dry, albeit rich, ripe, and sweet in its aroma and flavor characteristics. It has medium(+) acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol, and pronounced intensity in flavors consistent with the nose. The finish lingers. 😍

The richness and vanilla, toasty aromas and flavors were undoubtedly influenced by the 6 months aging in 1/3 New French Oak, 1/3 Once Used French Oak, and 1/3 Neutral French Oak Barrels. 🪵

Yes, excellent summary, @Vanessa. I would be remiss if I didn’t share that @David L put me onto this producer, and other stellar whites. But I’m thrilled you enjoyed it.

1989 La Mission Haut Brion. Decanted and strained through cheesecloth over 4 hours prior to service. Glad we did. Continued to open up for the next 1-2 hours. Cassette tape, acetone, blueberries, gravel, soil. Really long finish. Drank side-by-side with the 1999 DRC Echezeaux (which we decanted just before serving) and it was a toss-up as to which we favored. Very different wines. Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Deep Ruby with pronounced aromas of black fruit, cigar box and floral aromas. On the palate blackberry, currant and plum flavors with cacao, tobacco and oak notes. Big fine tannins, long finish, good balance ending with fruit, savory earthy herbs and toasty cedar notes. Nice! — 2 months ago
