I really regret opening this and wish I had kept racked, but the fruit was bright, almost jammy. Light on tannins, alcohol medium, very smooth. Also a great French red. — 4 years ago
Deep garnet opaque, light body, bright red berries and minerals, nice acidity with well balanced tannins — 2 months ago
Honeyed and great intense zesty lemon. Minerality and electric detailed acidity… rich and punchy. Long. In great shape — 5 months ago
Quite light garnet core with a wide watery garnet rim . Quite reserved and closed at first , with light red currant , herbal wild strawberry , ripe red cherry and earthy , dry spices . On the palate this has quite a rustic , tannic profile for a simples Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits , with quite fresh acidity but has enough cool strawberry , raspberry , red currant and earthy sous bois to fill out on the palate . Balanced alcohol and reasonable length , with a hint of bitterness . Pretty old school and rustic in style but certainly individual and has personality. In this vintage at least there is just enough mid palate to deal with the extended aging in oak . This does need a little time to open up and requires food and arguably needs a little more time , though I do worry that with more time in bottle it will loose the little fruit that it still has . So drink now and over the next 5 years or so . Overall probably the best red I have had from Chateau de Villars Fontaine . — 10 months ago
Holding up very nicely since last time in 2021. Last one I think — 3 months ago

2019 vintage. Decanted and tasted after one hour. Non-committal nose. Light-medium/medium body. Grace and elegance with some dark fruit and earthy markers placed throughout. Overall, it is flowing fairly seamlessly now without bumping into any sharp edges. Expected a bigger wine. Pleased it wasn’t. No previous experience with this wine/producer but maan…having a half-case of this (or more) would really be nice as this covers an absolute ton of food options. 3.13.26. — a month ago
