The 2019 Bélair-Monange has a more tertiary nose, backward and broody, almost Left Bank in style. This demands much more coaxing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly chocolaty opening. The oak a little too thick maybe? Plenty of fruit behind it, quite plush on the finish, but missing the intellect that previous bottles have displayed. Maybe entering an awkward adolescence? Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2023) — 6 months ago

Night two at Bern’s. A backup bottle to replace the 1907 LLC that had a flaw. Went with this choice for its high shoulder fill and great color. Light tawny reddish color. Clear rims with a deep color center in the glass. Fruit forward nose with notes of black and red fruit, some earth and some wood. With air it opened like the others. Decent structure. Good balance. Nice, solid wine for its age but nothing dramatic or exciting. — 6 months ago
One of my favorites in the in Bourguignon-style of Beaujolais are those of Thibault Liger-Belair. What I adore about Thibault’s approach is that his winemaking philosophy seems to suit M-à-V so well. Popped and poured; no formal notes. The 2016 “Moulin-à-Vent VV” is full of the undeniable dark fruit and structure and yet, incorporates a funky charm that seems to bridge Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaujolais perfectly. To my palate, these 2016 VV’s are just entering the early part of their drinking window. I still think this is developing and it will take another few years before the secondary characteristics begin to show and that’s when the magic really starts to show with these wines. All of the pieces and parts are there…all that is required at this point s a little more patience. Good now but better with a little patience and after 2026. Should be awesome well through 2036 — a month ago
Sipping Fine Wine
Medium Ruby color with aromas of red fruits, floral and spice notes, grapes from Nuits and Chambolle, aged 25% in new casks. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry and blackberry with notes of cacao, cola and spice. Fine tannins, medium+ savory finish, ending with fruit, spice and slight oaky notes. — 14 days ago
