Bricco San Pietro Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Very nice Barolo from a year I haven’t had much of. Needs an hour+ of air to balance out. Tons of cherry on the nose. Palate is intense, in a good way - the fruit hits hard and persists with mouth staining power. Long finish with excellent acid. Structure on the finish is still quite serious, but with food (a long simmered beef shin and pork shoulder ragu this time) does very well. — 4 days ago

Malvirà

San Michele Superiore Barbera d'Alba 2005

Rich Italian dark cherries permeate this luscious bouquet with a slight hint of Valencia oranges. Sour cherries, spices and a slight orange sweetness that rounds off a smooth and balanced finish! 16 years old and who would thought it would be so spectacular? That’s right- those Italians did!! — 4 years ago

Murgo Etna Rosso Sicilia IGT Nerello Mascalese Nerello Cappuccio 2022

Etna Rossi is often called the Pinot of Italy but of its similarities in acidity and bright red fruit. My advice: try one before they get too expensive. — 8 days ago

Murgo Etna Bianco Carricante Catarratto

70% Carricante 30% Catarratto from Sicily and yes I needed Jancis Robinson et al. to tell me what those grapes are. Dry with nice aromatics (curry, cumin, dried red pepper) and minerality. If you had told me this was Vermentino I would have believed you. Very nice and yes @Brendan Devine it’s natty. — 5 years ago

La Marca di San Michele

CapoVolto Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore 2021

Structure is on point: high acidity, long finish, full mouthfeel. Flavors are a jumbled mess though. Bruised fruit is primary. Clean up some of that and this would be fire. — 6 months ago

Azienda Agricola Cellagrande di San Michele

Carema Nebbiolo 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2019 pours a very pretty garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of raspberries, cranberries, pomegranate, rose pastilles, alpine herbs, cedar chest, and crushed rock. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose thought the palate seems to be a little more reserved. The finish is medium. This is an authentic and elegant expression of Carema; a place already known for elegance. Drink now through 2034. Thanks to @Lyle Fass for the assist! — 2 years ago

@Jay Kline yup, new winery so no track record but based on Ferrando I think this has legs.

There are similarities for sure. I would even go as far to say that these offer more freshness, at least in their youth.
