Very complex nose. Intense red berries, cedar, warm terra cotta tiles, incense, crushed stone. Intense flavors tenaciously cling to all parts of the mouth. Intense terroir: so much gravel and savory minerality. Great length. Nice freshness for a ‘12. Tannins still there but soft-textured and starting to resolve. Superb. — 9 days ago
Really started to shine 2-3 hrs in, very tight out of the chute, eventually showed gorgeous cherry, rose hips & crushed flowers, some asphalt, slight lift, minerals & sweet spice - big rigid tannins - blind I might have mistaken for Barolo... recall this being a pretty good vintage w/long life ahead (purchased in Montalcino) — 15 days ago
Packs a punch! Earthy, dark smokes and dark berries — 23 days ago
Let’s talk about ‘tertiary’...by that I mean aromas and flavors that develop during the bottle-aging process. 🙌🙌
With the name Brunello di Montalcino DOCG you can be certain this wine was made with 100% Sangiovese grapes, came from Tuscany, in Central Italy, 🇮🇹 and was aged for a minimum of 5 years prior to release, at least two of which were in oak vessels.
The age on this wine shows in its aromas and flavors, which retain some evidence of fruit, but have started to trend towards the tertiary side of things. 🍷☺️
👁 The color is medium ruby with garnet rim variation.
👃 Indeed the nose has a medium(+) intensity of developing aromas. Aromas include baked cherry, strawberry, blackberry, also black licorice, anise, fennel, balsamic, nutmeg, clove, cedar, tobacco, earth, meat, and game.
👄 On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol, medium(+) tannins, and medium(+) intensity of flavors consistent with the nose. The finish is medium(+).
Shout out to @sommnow @h_obf for helping us find this gem 💎 👏👏👏👏👏
La Togata, Brunello di Montalcino, Vintage 2009, ABV 14.5%. — 19 days ago
Urban Wines of Sweden has somehow cojnured up this BdM and called it Armatura. If anyone knows more, please enlighten me. 36 mo on barrel and 12 in bottle, 14% alc. The wine is clear and dark red in color; nose is clearly Sangiovese but with more dried red fruit (almost ripasso-esque) including both strawberries and dark cherries, spices, chocolate, and mineral hints; taste is subdued and mild with fine tannins, but elegant fruity with nougat, lemon-pepper. Overall seems well made but with a structure better suited for early drinking than long-term storage. — a month ago
A wow wine drinking perfectly right now. Blind I would have guessed late 80s Mouton. Bright ruby with some bricking. Notes of red currant, rose hip, turned earth, iodine and mint. With time some wet tobacco. Palate is all red fruit, mint and sun baked limestone. Just elegant and lithe with fine but structured tannins. Don’t miss this one. — 2 days ago
Color is translucent ruby. On the nose is dust, tobacco, dried rose petal and cherry at first. Then pure, sweet red berries, red plum, black tea, dried cherries, orange peel, clove and fennel on the palate. Has the quality of being simultaneously crystalline, pure and concentrated. Tannins are fine and just gently brush the palate. Nice perception of sweetness. Elegant, Burgundian Brunello. Should develop nicely but it is already drinking so well, no need to wait. — 18 days ago
