Bordini Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2010

Even 2010 was not as good vintage as in Barolo there are still excellent Barbarescos like this one. Nose screams Nebbiolo with ripe red berries, rose, some pine and licorice. On palate the wine does not quite match the nose but has nice sweet fruit that is hold by the midweight body. Tannins are still obvious and bit sandy with acidity that further supports the freshness. Finnish is just a tad short but regardless this is fully satisfying Barbaresco from one of the top producers — 23 days ago

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

WOW!!! Beautiful ruby color with a bit of garnet around the rim. Beautiful aromas of black fruit, rose petals, vanilla and spices. Black cherry, plum, pepper spice fill the pallet. N:Wow that’s interesting, Cherries(black), tar, lots of red flowers, salt!, citrus rind like English marmalade,
Granted it’s new glasses and I haven’t done a hth.
P: Cherries, Strawberries, tarry viscosity, ready to go after 2+ hrs out. Delicate tannins present, a dark, brooding wood/soil quality is there. Almost chocolate on the nose when you sip. As this airs, tannins build.Nice acidity balance, beautiful wine

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

Another solid vintage of this consistently great Barbaresco. This vintage seemed fuller and richer than many others. Beautiful nose of dried cherry, freshly turned soil, tobacco and tar. Touch of spice. Expressive pallet features dried cherry and raspberry, leather, black tea, balsamic vinegar. Hint of mint, orange and toasted nuts on the finish. Expressive and fresh tasting. Riserva Pora Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2013

Pora is a “lighter” cru and this was noticeable. At age nine I didn’t expect so much evolution into it’s tertiary stage. And this for colour, nose and taste. Don’t know if this is normal. But nevertheless a superb wine! I just wouldn’t keep it for more than another 5 years. — 9 days ago

Castelletto Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

Popped and poured. The 2014 “Castelletto” is garnet with an transparent core and very slight staining of the tears. On the nose, cherry lozenge, roses, dried green herbs, tomato leaf. On the palate, the wine is dry, high tannin, medium++ acid. On the palate, cherry candy, cherry raisin, dried earth and iron minerals. A little thin. Long finish. The nose is more interesting than the palate at this stage. I gotta wonder if time will be kind to the 2014 vintage? Anyway, fun to check in on. — 10 days ago

03 was historically hot & dry. Did Monprivato succeed despite these conditions?

DAY 1
Served the wine with the Vinloq System which allows nitrogen to be pulled into the bottle with pouring
👀Brown/orange mixed with red
👃Cherries, tobacco, tar & roses. Some stewed/dried fruit
👅Mature. Florals and fruit are present. Light. Could use more acid. Easy to drink. Balanced

Remaining wine Slow Decanted in my fridge

DAY 10
Nice aged notes. Savory. Okay precision. Tannins are good. Kept improving in the glass

DAY 17
👃Classic & beautiful with aged notes. Finally what I was hoping for👍
👅Drinking well. Cherry. Significant tar. Savory

Similar on the 3 days, but the nose was most beautiful on DAY 17

The pedigree was apparent here in this lovely barolo despite the vintage conditions. Balance was retained with enough precision to allow the Mascarello Monprivato personality to come through👏

Nose is very expressive with tar, roses and big time cherries and also cherry flower. Minerals and wood shavings. Clay? Gorgeous wild mint and major road tar. Really complex and expressive nose. Palate is juicy and clean. Elegant and compact. Lovely intensity but never heavy. Good concentration. Nice velvety tannins and very grippy. Long finish. Could use a few more years but wanted to check in. With air this has gotten so lovely. Sweet, silky, velvety and lovely mid season cherry attack. Amazingly pure and balanced. 9.3 to 9.4. — 14 days ago

Dark sweet cherries, clay, orange rind, cardamon. Exotic potpourri spice without evidence of oak. Dry, with black-cherry and mulberry fruit. Round and expressive with a touch of heat to finish. Feels more like Barolo, very solid. Drink or hold. — a month ago
