Soil Specific Sauvignon Blanc 2019

πŸ‘‰ I’ve been excited to try this barrel-fermented and -aged Sauvignon Blanc from the Dry Stack Vineyard of Bennet Valley, Sonoma County, thanks to the amazing reviews from @Ron R. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ It’s actually a blend, comprised of 98% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Semillon, reminiscent of a Bordeaux Blanc (winemaker Jesse Katz actually studied winemaking in Haut-Brion, Bordeaux; it shows). @jkatzwine

πŸ‘ This wine has strong clarity and a medium lemon hue.

πŸ‘ƒ It immediately captures πŸ“· and focuses my senses on its youthful, layered nose offering complex aromas of ripe guava, mango, tangerine sherbet, passion fruit sorbet, lemon pith, lemongrass, fennel, white rose, cherry blossom, vanilla, and toast. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

πŸ‘„ On the palate this wine is dry, albeit rich, ripe, and sweet in its aroma and flavor characteristics. It has medium(+) acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol, and pronounced intensity in flavors consistent with the nose. The finish lingers. 😍

The richness and vanilla, toasty aromas and flavors were undoubtedly influenced by the 6 months aging in 1/3 New French Oak, 1/3 Once Used French Oak, and 1/3 Neutral French Oak Barrels. πŸͺ΅

Yes, excellent summary, @Vanessa. I would be remiss if I didn’t share that @David L put me onto this producer, and other stellar whites. But I’m thrilled you enjoyed it.

Fantastic wine! Such a great aroma, and the oaky, berry flavors were unreal. Of the four reds I enjoyed 7/15, this was my favorite β€” 7 days ago

It is a very soft fruit forward drink not tart, or sweet. It’s very delicate to the taste.

I am so happy to drink such a delicious Alexander Valley drink Cabernet. It is delicious!οΏΌ

Interesting story. Put this in the freezer Saturday night for an after party bottle and promptly forgot it until the next day. I put it in the fridge bc of course the cork popped and it was a slushee. It thawed out today and I am enjoying a very nice wine. I think the freezing perhaps accelerated the aging a bit but it still amazingly tastes as it should. Nice Chard. Drinking young but it’s a fighter! β€” 9 days ago

This is drinking beautifully right now and still has more time: this is more brute than elegant for sure: muscular dense concentrated: jam packed with layers & layers of pure cherry fruit in virtually every form. Offset by spice, pepper & decomposed soil - this is well-knit but not graceful. Really felt the heat (15.4), still scratched the itch for legit Cali Zin β€” 25 days ago

Wonderfully smooth and complex: all the right red mature red fruit notes, presence on the nose and a great juicy finish. Had this with nice Bison New York strip - Great glass with any red meat dish! β€” 10 days ago

Rubia Wine Cellars

Ritchie Vineyard CHARDONNAY 2019

Rubia Wine Cellars Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 Russian River Valley, California

Light golden in color.

On the nose citrus, yellow apples, lemons, light oak and vanilla, spices and white pepper.

Full bodied, smooth and lightly creamy, with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with apples, melons, pears, spices, light oak, vanilla, earth, light herbs and white pepper.

Nice length on the finish with spices and light almonds.

This is a delicious Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Well-balanced with a great mouth feel. Elegant and rich.

Good by itself right out of the bottle, and better when not too cold, when the complexity shows up.

The light oak notes are very intertwined and give a luxury feel to the wine.

A good quality wine that would be nice to revisit in 3 years.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

100% Chardonnay grapes were barrel fermented and aged in French oak barrels for 16 months on lees. A very small production of only 6 barrels were made.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$65.
