Deep red/purple in colour, this wine was a real pleasure. We drunk this on its own and there was
blackberry and a little oak in its aroma. Dark fruit with some red berry giving a medium-body, medium tannin taste.
I suspect it would have been even more delicious has we decanted to let it open up. — 18 days ago
What a delightful bottle - great balance of black cherry, raspberry, plum and violet aromas with forest floor, mishroom, and leather. Wonderful acidity supporting the medium body and soft, velvety tannins. Fruity, fresh and great finesse. Clare Valley Dolcetto rocks — 8 days ago
The 2014 Jimmy Watson winner, and what a ripper it is. Needed a decant and a good splash to open up and reveal all the blue and black berry fruit and spice that made this such an enticing wine in its youth. Elegant, savoury and delicious! — 9 days ago
Initial impressions - Earthy, Herbal, Soy. Cherry complex and long. Much intestinal fortitude ie. guts. Thankfully not overly menthol/eucalyptus (just a trace) as you often get with all Wendouree Cuvées. Amazing the intensity provided by those old vines going back to the 1890’s. Could easily last another 5 to 10 years but pretty much at its peak right now. This is as good as Australian Shiraz gets - up there with Grange and Hill of Grace and recognised as such by Langtons. With time in the decanter, like all great wines, they develop and change. I was getting raspberry and mineral after a few hours. An exceptional wine and in the top 5 or so wines I have had this year. In good vintages I don’t think Wendouree Shiraz should be approached at under 20 years of age. — 16 days ago
Beautiful earth, savoury nose, not obnoxiously Pinot. Lovely acid and tannin integration — 11 days ago
From the disappointing wet 2011 vintage in South Australia where many producers did not produce a wine, but, typically with old vine fruit from Wendouree, this showed well. Quite ripe considering the vintage, yet medium weight palate - liquorice and spice notes with excellent intensity. Those old vines cover a multitude of sins like a cold wet vintage. 11 years is rather young for a Wendouree but given the vintage this was very polished. Has enough guts to have another 5+ years in the cellar. — 2 days ago
High acidity, medium tannins, quite robust upfront flavor with long finish. Enjoyed with sous vide flank steak. — 7 days ago

This developed positively from previous tastings here on Delectable. My brief notes - Liquorice; more savoury than fruit driven - Bacon, Charcuterie, spicy notes on the nose and medium weight palate. Some pepper. Very Northern Rhone in style. Certainly built for the long haul. I have 2 left - next in 2024. — 2 days ago
