The Hess Collection
Napa Valley Chardonnay
Fat herby style. Perhaps could use a bit more tang. Lovely bitters

Feb 21st, 2020Founded by Donald Hess, purchasing vineyards on Mount Veeder in 1978 and began making wine in 1983. Light golden with Fresh ripe stone fruit aromas and sweet notes. On the palate peach and ripe apple flavors with toasty notes. Medium length, good acidity, ending with a mineral oak tang. Ok, but the wine is lacking a cohesive balance.

Jun 20th, 2018Tonight we are having a very aromatic Chardonnay from the Napa Valley. The 2012 Hess Collection.
On the nose there is wonderful fruit of lemon, Pear, citrus peel, honeysuckle, jasmine, white flowers, wet rocks and minerality.
On the palate is lemon, green apple, Pear, a hint of butter and minerality. There is a medium acidity and a nice viscous mouth feel.
For the price not a bad quaffer.
Nostrovia! 🍷🍷

Deliciously clean and pure. A laser beam of focused fruit leads to a mouthwatering finish.

Apr 5th, 2017As I don't taste 18 years old Napa Valley Chards everyday, I admit being a novice here. But this is nice and beautifully evolved showcasing candied tropical fruits, butterscotch and a whiff of petrol on the nose. Rich and verging on full-bodied on the palate, the lively acidity brings peace to its spicy, toasty and fully mature fruit flavors. Impressive!
