I’d never have guessed this was brought up in 100% new oak! If I hadn’t been in the midst of a big event swimming in wine, I’d have picked the brain of winemaker @Mike Smith more on the details and would have a longer tasting note….what I can say is that it was totally gorgeous. Makes me say yessss Napa Cab yesss I see you here.

This is the ultimate #FridayCabernetfix day, isn't it? #HappyNewYear

This is a beautiful Double Magnum from Napa Valley.

Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity.

Showing black fruits with tobacco, cedar, vanilla, licorice, peppercorn, chocolates, coffee and light earth.

Long finish with firm tannins.

Rich and bold with a nice mouthfeel. Still young, but already delicious.

This 6 year old, from the 2015 vintage, is extracted and in your face kind of wine, that needs at least 15 years in the bottle. Showing great complexity already, with a great mouthfeel.

Robert Parker 94 points.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime, which I did not have. This double Magnum finished so quickly.

A really nice wine to have all by itself.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in 100% new oak barrels. A small production of only 175 cases.

15.1% alcohol by volume.

95 points.

$800.

After my annual Napa trip, and a few days home of drying out, I wanted a well aged Napa cab to bring me back in.

I gave this a 3hr double decant before trying. I snuck a small glass on opening and it was sporting an uber youthful bite and not much on the finish. After I gave it time, it really fleshed out and bulked up quite a bit. Poured alongside a 2012 Alpha Omega Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper, the Myriad was the group favorite, but it obviously depends on a style preference. The AO was more elegant and finesse driven whereas the Myriad was powerful. Had a classical DrCrane scorched earth flair on the nose but plenty of ripe red and black fruits alongside mocha, dark baking spices and sweet toasted oak (very much in the background). The palate was licorice, tar, and mixed dark berry pie with fine grained tannin on the finish. I’d say this is now in a prime window if you can give it time, but I’m hard pressed to say this gets better…I think it just gets different.

Glorious with a New York steak cooked to perfection tonight. Big, bold, silky, balanced. 2hr decant set the stage. What a great way to celebrate today!

09’ Myriad Dr Crane. I last tried this wine 4 years ago.
Decanted it for 3 hours ,it’s a absolute must.
Throwing a bit of sediment.
The nose sold it then & sells it now also. The wine is even a bit more expressive. Right down the middle for the win. Drink over the next 10 years. Cheers!

Balance is extraordinary! Dark fruit with a backbone of bright acidity!

The man, the myth, the legend (Mike Smith, with his wife) decided to throw us a bone and grace our dinner. How cool is that?
This wine is so complete. A meal on its own. Black as the night in the glass. Nose displays maple syrup and a hint of balsam. Huge mouthfeel, with a teeth-staining extraction. So plush and sweet. Still very primary, more bottle age will take this to an even better place. Anne-Marie (my wife) in the middle. From magnum.

Power and finesse. Much like SQN these top end Myriad wines are the epitome of the iron fist/velvet glove. Give this a minimum 2 hour decant and then let the violets and cacao rise from the glass. Graphite is the first thing that jumps out at me. Burnt cedar, plum compote, gravel. Just mouthwatering and luscious and purple and polished. Props @Mike Smith
