Retromarcia Chianti Classico Sangiovese
100% Sangiovese grapes, from vineyards consisting of shale (Galestro) 70%, sandstone (Arenaria-Calcare-Pietraforte) 20%, limestone (Alberese) 10%. Deep Ruby with aromas of red and black fruits with sweet spice and earthy floral notes. Fine vivid tannins, medium+ finish, well balanced with acidity, ending with fruit and earthy mineral character. Nice!

Aug 12th, 2022Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Nose of plums, cherries, licorice, oak, light vanilla, bitter vegetables, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, dark chocolates, black pepper, earth, leaves and eaucaliptus.
Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry and tart on the palate with cherries, strawberries, cranberries, red currants, oak, smoke, vanilla, earth, forest floor, green vegetables, graphite black pepper and spices.
Medium finish with round tannins and spices.
This Chianti Classico is simple and unbalanced, but drinkable. A good food wine with a nice mouthfeel. Not my style, though.
Needs an hour to open up properly and show some tannins.
Made from organic grapes.
13.5% alcohol by volume.

1 person found it helpfulJan 12th, 2019Traditionally made Chianti Classico from an American expat who followed a dream. Red cherries, leather, vanilla and red current on the nose. Perhaps a touch of alcohol too. Somewhat less interesting on the palate where the mid to light-weight structure yields a somewhat muted flavor profile. For around $20, it's a good choice.
