La Spinetta
Cà di Pian Barbera d'Asti
Last night we opened the 2016 La Spinetta Ca' DiPian Barbera D'Asti. From Castagnole Lanze, Italy.
On the nose there is strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, black cherry, licorice, spice, violets, vanilla and dried leaves.
On the palate I am getting blackberry, black cherry, plum, licorice, some menthol and it has herbaceous notes.
This wine is medium + to full bodied with medium to medium + acidity and medium + fine grippy tannins that leave you with a medium + to long red and black fruit finish. I hope everyone's new year has started off in a positive way. Please as always stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Dec 24th, 2021The 2018 Barbera d'Asti Ca' di Pian is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Dark cherry, plum, spice and chocolate are all kicked up in this succulent, open-knit Barbera from La Spinetta. Drink it over the next handful of years. As always, the Ca' di Pian overdelivers for the money. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Carne Asada wine. Still nice pop of fresh blue/black fruits and just a bit of that prune/fig action. Solid little number in the low $20s.

Jul 26th, 2018Just love the Rhino on the label! Ruby red with blue and black fruit aromas and earthy floral spices. The palate shows blackberry and cherry flavors with some oak and spice. Vivid acidity, soft tannins and earthy mineral notes on a medium+ finish.

Sep 21st, 2017Blackberries, tar, violets. An attractive, fairly straightforward Barbera that shows more rottenness than one might expect from this vintage. Tasty.
