Pulled an older bottle from the cellar, paired with grilled beef flap meat and Francis Mallmann inspired potatoes griddled on cast iron over charcoal.
Deep Ruby purple color. Nose of blackberries, salty licorice, star anise, and a hint of prune. A touch of Port like fruit concentration, and with aeration vanilla and cassia notes come up. Still hearty structure this is medium to full-bodied and could take another 10 plus years in the cellar. This is definitely new world.

This was my and Reid's Bosward (Winemaker) favorite of the tasting. Big broad dark fruits on entry, expansive as they layer in the palate. Some nice soft spice, light pepper with medium intensity baking spices. It will be interesting to taste again in 5-6 years for softer blend of fruit and more complexity.

1995 #Kaesler Old Vine #Shiraz, #Barossa Valley #wine. An amazing treat for sure with dried ripe cherry, dried plum and distinctive Aussie eucalyptus mixed with barnyard, leather and vanilla spice. Soft, silky and lingering. #australia #sommelier #nomnom #restaurant

Dark fruit with a wonderful depth of herbal complexity. Coffee, mint and meat. Serious stuff!

Decided to open as several other of the mature Aussies I've acquired have expired or gotten raisiny. Live and learn I guess. I didn't have high hopes for this either as the cork broke. Never a good sign. But this is fantastic and vibrant. Blueberry fruit, with game, leather and pepper notes. And bits of cork, of course. The loamy finish is endless. Ample backbone, with several enjoyable years ahead.
