Rich, supple and delicious. A prime example of what the Barossa does so well, particularly in a good vintage. Blackberry, blackcurrant, dark chocolate and coffee grounds. Barb thought too much coconut oak but I didn’t think it was excessive. The next night ripe plum and oak- rich and mouth filling - through to the mid 2030’s. Your choice - rich and fruit driven or developed savoury notes or somewhere in between.

What a delicious Shiraz from Barossa Valley this is.

Full bodied with medium acidity.

Very dry on the palate and fruit forward.

Showing black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, earth, chocolates, tobacco, Indian spices, peppercorn, coffee, cola and licorice.

This 9 year old is drinking beautifully now. Rich and extracted. Tangy and interesting. Showing Nice complexity and mouthfeel.

I had the 2006 years ago, and it is very consistent.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime.

Robert Parker 96 points.

Aged in new French oak barrels for 14 months. Unfiltered and delectable

15.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$75.

Been awhile since I’ve had this big boy. Juicy-jammy, but reined in. Big blackberry was expected, and echoed on the palate, but dried blackberry, oregano, dried black currant, tobacco, Turkish coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla, make it decadent. Violets, smoke, allspice and leather keep it honest. Pleasantly satisfying and a welcome diversion. .

Smokey on the nose and all over, charred meat and blackberry compote, but all fully resolved. We quietly sucked down 2 bottles over dessert and cheese but hell if this wasn’t the best match for fleur-de-sel laced dark chocolate I ever had. Fully resolved, delicious and unlikely to get better.

2005 vintage. Surprisingly fresh and lively, considering its age. Fresh red and dark fruit flavors of black cherry, raspberry coulis, baked blueberry, red currant with little dill-type herbalness, mocha, old cigar box. Lots of complexity and seems like it still had time to go. Valentine Wine!

It’s been a minute since I’ve had an Amon-Ra and this bottle from @Joe Lucca brought back some fond memories. My tastes have strayed from most Aussie Syrah (some notable exceptions aside) but this is still in my wheelhouse. Rich, sweet black cherry, fruit cake, well integrated oak, iron. In a really nice place. Soft supple and warm. Here’s looking at you looking at me Amon-Ra.

A truck load of blackberries, baking spices and balsamic. The mouthfeel is luxurious, like wrapping you palate in velvet. A thick, massive wine and yet, it stops short of ponderous. Not really my style of wine but undeniably well made. Would be really good with grilled meat. Can drink now or years and years to come.
