Slightly cloudy appearance, dull not bright. Discovered tiny pieces of solid matter in the glass so seems unfined and unfiltered. Definitely better uncorked than Coravinned, needs to breath a little. With Coravin there’s some reductive notes and vegetable notes. Medium(-) aromas that remind me of stems and fermentation (tank sample) definitely som stems in the ferment. Warm alcohol on the nose and on the palate. Still, good balance between the intensity and the richness of ripe red fruit and the acidity. Just picked up the 2016 Evening Land Seven Springs Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley.
On the nose there there is good fruit of cherry, raspberry, cranberry, plum, cola, vanilla, rose petal and dusty soil.
On the palate I am getting strawberry, cherry, cranberry, some tartness, mushroom, spice, minerality and earth.
The wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and medium fine polished tannins that lead into a medium to long finish. I never get tired of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Showing beautifully at the moment. Intense with concentrated cherries & strawberry notes. Serious structure, much more than most American Pinot. Texture and aromatics on point as well. This vineyard continues to deliver great wines. These show well with air & food, but will reward cellar time too.
