Eola Amity Hills, Willamette Valley

Walter Scott

Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Ruby red, lightly to moderately extracted pigment, excellent clarity. Earthy, slightly funky nose initially. Hint of raspberry, good initial acidity, some seed bitterness on finish with length. Needs time to open but well structured wine. Cherry flavor and light-to-moderate skin astringency emerge after 30 minutes. Barnyard stink blows off after two hours. Worth the wait. — 5 days ago

Pears and apples. Slight bruised quality. Lots of acid with a slightly creamy finish. Medium to full bodied with a somewhat waxy texture. — 17 days ago

Funky and earthy but clean. Definitely tastes like willamette soil! Interested to try his higher end wines! — 19 days ago

Really solid pinot. This has aged beautifully into a seamless wine. Hints of dried plum, cassis (strange for a pinot), cranberry, along with spicy cedar accents. It glides across the palate with just enough acidity to leave you wanting more. Glad I let this one rest awhile. — 12 days ago

Sojourner Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

I’m a fan. Opened one of my earliest purchases from the winery, and it’s so good. Ruby red, very good clarity, light to moderate pigment extraction. Black currant, raspberry and blackberry in nose with a hint of funk, red fruit galore in the mouth. Light skin and seed tannins, enough to remind you it’s still grape juice, albeit fermented. Really well crafted and balanced. Raspberry flavors starts early, cherry and some cranberry come later. Layers of red fruit depth, worth the wait. — a month ago

Bjornson Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Medium tears and garnet color. Strong earthy notes on the nose. Same earthiness on the palate with leather, forest floor, and a little tobacco. Some mellow red fruit and mild acid rounds out the flavor. Very nice old world style wine from the new world. — 7 days ago

Haven’t had this vintage, but this is one of the best “rosés” being produced in the US (for my tastes) due to its big style. The ‘14s are very good right now.
