Gift to my daughter for her birth year. Paired with carrot cake and cherry pie. Deep inky purple red. Sweet, raisiny wine with cherry flavor. More ruby in character, has held up well with age though it’s not a vintage port by any stretch, not enough complexity

Fall is here and it’s the season I love to drink port. Dow, producing Ports for over 2 centuries. One of the first to establish its own vineyards, acquiring Senhora da Ribeira, in the remote Upper Douro, in 1890 & Bomfim, in the heart of Alto Douro, in 1896. Aromas of ripe fruits, fragrant spices and sweet notes. On the palate flavors of candied apple and jammy blackberries with cacao and honey. Firm dusty tannins, good balance, long finish. Perfect now.

I won't beat poetically around the bush. This vintage Port (2012) is nothing short of astounding. It's got the savory nose one expects on a tawny, but bigger, blacker, more brutish. A heavy whiff of smoke never goes away, and the earthy aromatics stay right behind. The palate lets the fruit shine through, sweet and sultry, with an amazing level of acidity and oh-so-firm tannins. It's a great sip, but I'm saving the last glass to have with a steak.

Fall is almost here, and it’s the season I love to drink port. Dow, producing Ports for over 2 centuries. One of the first to establish its own vineyards, acquiring Senhora da Ribeira, in the remote Upper Douro, in 1890 & Bomfim, in the heart of Alto Douro, in 1896. Aromas of really ripe fruits & pleasant fragrant spices. On the palate, ripe fruit flavors, candied apple and sweet blackberries with bits of cacao and honey. Firm dusty tannins, good balance, lingering finish. Perfect now. Tasting Sample.

Marinated mushroom magic. Grapes and raisins, cassis berry, skateboard bushing and candied violets inform an incredibly soft nose. A very blackberry and black currant reduction comes as a surprise bonus with charcoal, black pepper soaked in dry pencil wood and grape skin. This is solid and complex. The finish is endlessly complex vs the common fare. Unexpected from such value port. #port #porto #lbv #dows #portuguesewine #fortified #privateports

Served by the glass for $9.00 on the cruise. Super dark ruby red. Lots of dark raisins on the nose with dark cherries and quite a bit of heat coming through. Similar notes on the palate but a bit thin. Medium plus finish. Decent entry level bottling for someone wanting to learn more about port. Drink till 2021.

It is a shy violet or rather there are shy notes of violet? It smells of jam and chocolate liqueur and the body…it is like hi alcohol but keep it in mind and the ripeness of blue and black amd also so (little) red so this is heady with balance.
If we could only.
Really though there is a chocolate and MULTI-FRUIT thing happening. So fun. I should add more now but I’m a smidge intoxicated with this elixir
