This was a bodybuilder not a muscle head.
Everything about this wine was muscular, and sculpted. Very well proportioned. Could have used hours in the decanter not the 30 minutes we gave it. Fans of this style of wine will love it..

Dark and inky garnet color. Aromas and flavors of smokey vanilla, wet earth, with an herbal note of sage over the top of the black fruits which are still coming through nicely. Super savory and meaty tannins and stark acidity tell me this can age infinitely!

After loving their white a few weeks back (posted 14 Jan) I had to try their red 😁 Yes another gem from @gabymeetswine @vilaviniteca for €58. Young but drinking well with Mrs E’s Fillet 🥩 in peppercorn sauce with 🍟

📍 Dominio del Águila Reserva 2015

🏵 92+ points but needs more time to shine

🍇 Tempranillo, Grenache, Blanca del País & Bobal

🍷 Deep opaque blackened purple tinted ruby

👃 Sweet dark & red cherry, raspberry chocolate cake, fresh cut cedar & soft smoked soaked oak w/ purple flower, light mineral, blueberry & black berries

👄 Med++ body of creamy smooth rich dark cherry, red cherry, black berry & raspberry in gloopy cocoa, red liquorice, blueberry pie & parma violets w/ a light dry mineral tone

🎯 Med+ slight sweet & dry mineral black cherry/berry boom w/ a red fruit & blueberry chocolatey cake splat

Bold and elegant at the same time capturing the intensity of the vintage with a delicious dark fruit core of dark cherries, blackberries, plums, with discreet floral notes of violets and lavender, some licorice, roasted meats, torrefact notes, and Indian spices. Captivating sappy texture as it enters the palate, it seems harmonious with sweet red and dark fruit flavors on entry followed by licorice and hints of dark chocolate, a nice refreshing balsamic midpalate with chalky mineral notes that lead to a deliciously savory meaty finish filled with sweet spices, and creamy velvety tannins. This is distinctly very Ribera in character but much more refreshing and elegant.

Good fruit but a little heavy on the oak. Nice with the "feather pork"

Another fantastic discovery from Spain, all thanks due to @Luis Gutiérrez at the WA for the tip on seeking out Aguila.
A little more oder than I was expecting, however there is an elegance and balance behind the new oak that should integrate better in time. I know this because I tried the 2012, 2013 and 2014 red and white barrel samples. Jorge is the real deal!

Great Ribera! Finesse and balance. At its peak in my opinion. Fruit and acidity combined with upcoming tertiary notes. Love it!
