Condado de Haza
Crianza Ribera del Duero Tempranillo
Ribera del Duero, Castilla y León, Spain

In 1972, Alejandro Fernández & wife Esperanza Rivera of Pesquera de Duero initiated the renaissance of Ribera del Duero appellation with area's first modern wire-trained vineyard, their Viña Alta in Pesquera. Their entry level wine that’s a great value. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits. Palate shows red berry fruits and light spice, vivid acidity and firm tannins. Medium finish ending with fruit character. Tried a year ago, still tasting well.

May 30th, 2021Moderately extracted purple-red, excellent clarity. Canned green bean and black currant notes in nose initially, the veg notes changes to briar after an hour. Black currant and blackberry flavors, chewy tannins, tart berry finish, light but chewy seed tannin astringency in aftertaste. Worth decanting this one at least three hours, else it will be a bit lacking in fruit. Good acidity for food here.

A nose of berry and alderwood
Tart berry, eucalyptus, tobacco, cedar, river stone, and hints of prune juice.
This finishes with licking kumquats off of a cigar box. That citrus acidity.
This was the perfect year for this part of Spain, and continues to make me glad I stored a few away..

Deeply extracted, purple. Sweet pea, cassis, butter and a touch of eucalyptus in nose. Black currant flavor, high seed tannin, skin astringency on finish.

Deeper fruit than the Pesquera. Seemed a touch more modern but lovely none the less and my preference over the former on this night.
