Château Serilhan
St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend
Another lost soul in the cellar. Exceeded expectations. fruit was gone, but drinkable… not dry, flat, or astringent.

Dec 27th, 2023Last night we opened the 2019 Château Sérilhan Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois Supérior Médoc. Left Bank Bordeaux blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot by Doctor Alain Reynaud.
On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, black currant, mint, licorice, pencil shavings, cedar and earth.
On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, green bell pepper, licorice, menthol, graphite and earth.
This is a beautiful medium to full bodied wine with a smooth succulent mouthfeel medium to medium+ acidity and medium + fine grained tannins that leaves you with a medium + to long dark fruit rich earth finish. Enjoy yourselves this weekend, have some fine wines with family and friends and please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Vintage 2009 - Just opening itself after a difficult puberty phase. Smell with a lot of earthiness, mocca and leather. Still a bit stubborn and that’s what I like about #SaintEstephe. True to type. Partnered it with guinea fowl on stewed mixed vegetables. #bordeaux

Feb 11th, 2018Really good nose, very inviting and so unmistakably left-bank. Aromas of blackberry, plum, cedar, pencil shavings, earthy quality, tiny hint of vanilla - all round an excellent, well balanced nose.
Palate a little less impressive, with quite a noticeable ‘hole’ in its middle, and some green pepper and tomato vine flavours. That fruit just disappears! Mostly sour cherry, cranberry, and quite a stalky palate with ample acidity, gentle tannins but not great depth to the fruit. It’s still enjoyable, though, and at this price £18 represents v good value.
I feel like this wine is an illustration of how it can hurt to be analytical about wine - dissecting a wine’s qualities and its flaws - as this is really a perfectly good Bordeaux in many aspects and does speak to its terroir. A little more body to the palate and this could’ve been a great wine.

Young, hard and tannic. Improves a little with a lot of air.

Sep 26th, 2016YUM. Red berries and earth. It’s a little cloying right after you open it, but in 10 minutes it mellows out into an amazing red to pair with hearty food on a chilly night.
