Surprisingly austere. Green, mean, and spicy. Nose is layered and complex. Tobacco leaf. This could use more time in terms of softening but I don’t see the vintage improving in any meaningful way.

Big impression of new oak. Vanilla, cedar, cigar box. Ripe black fruits in the background. Deep and fairly extracted for Left Bank Bordeaux.

On Christmas Eve another wine we opened was the 2008 Château LaLande-Borie. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from Saint-Julien on the Left Bank in Bordeaux.

On the nose was black cherry, blackberry, licorice, leather, tobacco and dusty crushed stone.

On the palate there was black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, spice, leather, oak, woody notes, earthy and crushed stones

This wine is full bodied with a smooth velvety mouthfeel medium+ acidity and medium to medium+ smooth rounded tannins that seamlessly move into a long earthy finish. I wish each and everyone of you had a wonderful Christmas and that we all have a exceptional start to the New Year ahead. Stay safe and healthy into this New Year. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

I regret not aging this longer! But my friends and I loved it. Blackberries, dried herbs, plums. Great structure. Just a delicious wine. I think it’s a good value for $45ish.

Enjoyable and drinking well, if a little on the oaky side. Plum, black cherry, graphite in the palate with an herbal finish that folds in a dash of barrel char. A firm, taut style typical of the vintage. Good stuff.

Better on Day 2. Soft texture. Black currants, baking spice, leather, earth. A better than decent claret.

Still shows too much oak. Solid otherwise.
