Restrained currant, red cherry and graphite that turns slightly confected next day. In a good way tho, and seamless. 14.5% not felt next day even.

This second wine of the property uses both older and younger vines and lots of merlot (though this will change over time). 30% new oak for 17 months
Medium ruby with a lovely bit of blueberry, blackberry and cassis on the nose. Some well-balanced oak on the palate. and a lovely long finish. Quite soft and elegant, with just enough tannin to give it structure and a bit of spice

I'm an big fan of Calon Segur, and now too of their second wine. An open and giving wine, it combines plum, blueberry, chocolate box, leather, tobacco, spice in a generous style. Decent grip from thanking and a soft velvet structure make for an enjoyable experience where one sip easily follows with the next.

One of the better “Seconds” I’ve ever had and surprisingly open for business right now. Blackberries, tobacco, charred jalapeños. Very primary. After a few hours, this started to recoil a bit which leads me to believe these will shut down at some point and re-emerge with some real strength down the road. Calon-Segur is one of the few properties in Bordeaux that have my attention anymore. They age with some real grace and just win, win, win no matter what.

Tonight is Daylights savings time and I picked up the 2016 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur from Saint - Estephe. This wine is the 2nd bottling of Châtéau Calon Ségur and it is 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose is black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, black plum, vanilla, cassis, violets and graphite.

On the palate is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, cassis, green bell pepper, violets, oak and earth.

The wine is medium to full bodied that has a smooth velvety mouth feel with medium + acidity and medium + smooth rounded tannins that leads to a long fresh dark fruit finish. Have a continued enjoyable and safe weekend. Nostrovia. 🍷🍷🍷🍷

I enjoyed this more than the top cru. If you like oak, you’ll enjoy it even more.

2020 vintage. So if the 2018 vintage of this wine (didn't taste the 2019 effort) was the Galactus-destroyer of (known) worlds-with otherworldly tannins (it is/was), this is the (initially) compliant Silver Surfer version with raspberry, sandalwood and milk chocolate covered almonds in the mix. Day and night. Night and day. Cole Porter was onto something there. Opened and tasted after 30 mins. Medium body. Pleasant. Balanced. Agreeable. Slightly dryish but able to easily link a noun and a verb without first responder assistance. Hint of Chambord/old-school leaden wine neck capsule/foil/metallic accent on the finish. Drinking great already but enough development already to hold onto a few to trace over the next decade and a half. Should be found under $36 or so USD. 7.23.24.
