Castello dei Rampolla
Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend
With an almost Bordeaux-like quality to the fruit, the 2018 Castello dei Rampolla Chianti Classico is quite unusual in style but a good wine nevertheless.
The nose is a dead ringer for St. Estephe, much less so Tuscany, and is distinctly marked by dark black fruits, cedar, warm earth and graphite. The palate is different again, this time more ‘blue’ clad, with very ripe and bold flavours of blueberry, blackcurrant and liquorice, while the tannins play a mellow role and the acidity doesn’t quite balance the act.

So very elegant, with intense cherry wood, burnished almond notes.

Jul 25th, 2020The nose was gorgeous and intense with dusty sweet minerality giving way to crushed cherry and raspberry. Classic dried florals and leather tones developed over time, along with hints of cinnamon, and clove. On the palate, I found a silky-soft expression with a mix of seductive red berry fruits and sweet herbs that coated the senses, yet maintained a juicy and vibrant core through brisk acidity. Hints of fine tannin lasted into the finish, along with dried strawberry and a twang of fresh sweet herbs. This is beautiful.
