Riserva Barbaresco Rosé delle Casasse Nebbiolo

Cascina Baricchi is a unique Barbaresco producer that focuses exclusively on a near extinct clone of Nebbiolo: Nebbiolo Rosé. They basically make one wine, separated into two releases, both labeled as Riserva.

This bottle was opened about 30min prior to service and enjoyed over the course of dinner. The 2018 “Rose delle Casasse” pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of Morello cherry, raspberry’s, roses, tar, talcum powder, licorice, and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and slightly savory. Gorgeous stuff and a perfect spring with rack of lamb. Drink now with some patience and through 2053.

Good but the fruit seemed more advanced than in the same wine a few weeks before.

In NY at a fancy restaurant. Classical style with those chewy tannins and great length.

Earthy, red fruit notes with a little bit of tobacco. Smells like a full bodied wine, but looks and finishes like a medium bodied wine. A really great wine.

Barbaresco 2017. Very interesting taste; I got a little bit of smoke and maybe tobacco? Nose: ripe cherry, ripe plum. Taste: ripe cherry, smoked wood? Would definitely try again in maybe another vintage (younger?)

Somewhat rustic in style. Grippy tannins. Enjoyable.
