Bouchard Père et Fils
Nuits-Saint-Georges Pinot Noir
Beautiful color of light brick, with a wide brick/ orange rim.
On the nose, earth, dirt, forest floor, light cherries, barnyard, blueberries, butter scotch, tobacco leaf, red currants, spices, herbs, minerals, graphite and black pepper. Yummy.
Light to medium bodied, with medium acidity, smooth, velvety and elegant.
Dry on the palate with green vegetables, currants, light cherries, strawberries, tobacco, earth, wet leaves, river rocks, coffee, spices, herbs, black tea and black pepper.
Long finish with fine, yet chewy tannins and tart cranberries.
This Pinot Noir is 18 years old and still young, with a firm mouthfeel, although velvety and elegant.
Well balanced and enjoyable by itself. Tangy finish and very earthy. Great wine to pair with food too. I liked the nose better than the palate.
Good right out of the bottle and better after 30 minutes of airtime.
As it opens up, more flowery notes come up with coffee and caramel.
This is not my usual style, but I really enjoyed it. The setting and the company always makes the wine taste better. Thank you for your kind hospitality Mike.
13% alcohol by volume.

2219 vintage. Some notable dirtiness on the finish. Medium body. Well made. Not the end all be all for NSG but a proper/representative effort that I'd love to tackle in a decade. 8.21.24

Aug 21st, 2024Very good red Bourgogne. Some tertiary notes already shiny through the raspberry and cherry red fruit core. Some tobacco, forest floor, and cherry compote. Med finish. Well made

May 28th, 2023Garnet. Lots of sauvage/spice depth on the nose - could confuse this with an Otago pinot. Palate is very fresh, almost bracing acidity. Strawberries, sandalwood, predominate a fairly simple palate. Good structure but acidic sharpness is dominating right now. Maybe will settle with more time?

Jul 2nd, 2020Shockingly good! Tannins are fully resolved leaving nice sweet cherry fruit. Easy to drink. Cork was soaked!

Dec 6th, 2019Not perfectly cellared, a little tired. But still a privilege to open a 45 year old bottle.

Nov 12th, 2017Lightest bit of tannin. Balanced acid. After 2 hours showed cigar and ripe dark cherry on the nose. Palette could use more concentration and depth but a very pleasurable bottle. Youthful.
