Bodega Garzon
Reserva Cabernet Franc

Good everyday red. I like the austerity and relative constraint of cab franc.

Medium body, smooth but tart, vanilla, boysenberry and cranberry with a peppery finish. Paired well with mushroom pâté.

Jun 16th, 2019Mmmmmmm. Red fruit on the nose. Noticeable acidity compared to the other Garzon wines. Punishing tannin, dried red fruit, clove and baking spices on the finish. Weighty, sandpaper texture. A consistently exciting producer.

After a 30 minute decant this wine from Uruguay really opens up. Silky smooth, low tannins, full bodied, dark fruit, nice color. Better than the 2016 I had a few years ago. TGIF!!

Rich and soft stewed cherry and plum. Gentle acid. Mild, grainy tannins. Holds up on day two. A great intro to the new wave of Uruguayan wine.

Another solid vintage of this Uruguayan Cabernet Franc. Dark purple color with violet highlights. Aromas of black fruit, tar, violets and poblano peppers. Flavors of ripe blackberry, prunes, bramble berries, pepper spice and dark chocolate. Hint of mint on the long and fruit forward finish. Firm and chalky tannins and medium bodied. Well balanced and complex. Well crafted. Solid QPR. Thanks for including in your Cab Franc Tasting, Ron B!
