Hubert Lamy

La Princée Saint-Aubin Chardonnay 2018

Wow 18s! Very exceptional experience for a vintage I didn’t take seriously. Then, Lamy is the kind of producer that can make magic out of anything. — a year ago

Château Climens

Barsac 1er Cru Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2001

Only a few wines possess this kind of vibrancy. The Climens from the excellent 2001 vintage is truly mesmerising. It has a rich aromatic profile packed with marmalade, figs, ginger, saffron followed up on the palate with preserved lemon, crème brûlée, apricots, nectarine. Layers upon layers. Not overly sweet, very balanced overall. Deeply satisfying. This is my new benchmark for great Sauternes. — a year ago

Gut Oggau

Joschuari Rot Blaufränkisch 2020

Luxardo cherries up front with a definite earthiness. Very dry and sandy finish. On the bolder side. Had with a steak dinner and it paired beautifully. — a year ago

Lodi Cinsault 2021

Popped and poured. The 2021 Cinsault pours a bright ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine has moderate intensity; fresh with ripe red fruits mostly raspberry, some confected cherry, Earl Grey, purple flowers and crushed gravel. On the palate, the wine is dry, medium(-?) tannin, medium acid pretty much medium, across-the-board confirming the notes from the nose with a very mineral finish. Super easy to enjoy. Drink now and through the next 5-ish years. — a year ago

Domaine des Roches Neuves (Thierry Germain)

Clos Romans Saumur Chenin Blanc 2020

Opened one for science. Caramel nose; pure grapefruit, flinty minerality, excellent texture/density & length. Needs a bit of time. Held up to a garlicky Ottolenghi pasta. — a year ago

Presqu'ile Winery

Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay 2018

Very elegant. Great acidity balances a core of ripe fruit. Judicious oak. Any Burgundian visiting Santa Maria, and any Californian visiting the Côte d’Or would be delighted with this wine. Would love to check back in 3-5 years when it will be next level. — a year ago
