Three Valleys Sonoma County Zinfandel Blend 2020

Round five of blind tasting and we all missed on this. I think a Zinfandel blend is cruel. I swore this was a Sonoma Cab… all those blended varieties proved tricky and the Zinfandel doesn’t stand out on its own. Dark ruby red with dark over ripened and jammy fruits. Smells hot. Also VANILLA. Say that five times. Has some nice bell pepper and green notes, some eucalyptus, balsamic, and a touch of mint. Low tannic levels, moderate acid and body. It’s delicious but tripped us up. — a year ago

Agree @Paul T- Huntington Beach but I didn’t get to choose for the tasting. In any case, it does seem drinkable now, but certainly has miles to go!

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2020

Ruby/purple color. (Dark for a Pinot Noir) Beautiful dark berry aromas with hints of spices, salami and roasted herbs. Bold on the pallet with bright blackberry and black cherry fruit with notes of baking spices and earth. Great length and balance. Powerful! Tasted this blind with friends and they could not believe that this was a Pinot Noir. Is there another varietal blended in? Regardless, this wine is outstanding! Thanks for the bottle Kasey and Pete! — a year ago

Penfolds

Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 2015

My second time trying Grange. Side by side with Hill of Grace this actually comes across more restrained. But it’s also a younger wine. Currants, plums, lavender, espresso, vanilla, sweet baking spices, asphalt. Rich and polised finish with freshness for balance. Aging will enhance the wine to new heights. — a year ago

Trimbach

Cuvée Frédéric Emile Alsace Riesling 2011

The “second wine” from one of Alsace’s greatest winemaking dynasties. Unlike the single-vineyard Clos Ste. Hune, this is a blend from two (adjacent) sites in the Geisberg (sandstone) and Osterberg (limestone) grand crus in Ribeauvillé. Complex bouquet with aromas of yellow apple, candied citrus, beeswax, crushed stone and a hint of petrol. Full-bodied, rich, quite concentrated with flavors of citrus (lemon) and notes of white fruit. Pure, precise, intense, great acidity — a year ago

Christo Estate Grown Red Blend 2019

Lovely royal purple ink with beguiling aromatics and a pinch of violet. Heavy body with balanced acidity and tannins, lush black currants, raisin, soft leather, and tongue enticing white pepper. Delightfully long finish rivaling the length of an Italian stallion. Perfect for those seeking a well-balanced wine on the drier side to be served with red meats or any savory morcels. Enticing mix of Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Viognier.
