Typical 2019. Medium body raspberries and strawberries. Lovely.

Next up is Volnay. Village-level from Giroud. This bottle makes me amazed at how the color of wine from the same grape can vary so much between nearby villages. This wine is bright red (like diluted oxygenized blood) and although the nose is full of typical PN notes of warm strawberries and raspberries, some forest and stable aromas, and new oak - it has de/light/ful freshness and flowery perfumed scent and aftertaste. Tannins are silky and small and acid level skyhigh and fresh. Perhaps a little too much oak for my taste but a very nice experience. The wine complemented quite well the assortment of italian sausages and kaltbach cheese. Freddy Kempf -- on a long Steinway sounding off Busoni's arrangement of Bach's Chaconne -- tied the knot of a perfect cellar moment. Cheers!

Prachtig geouderde Volnay 1999 van Giroud. Laatste uit kist van 12. Super. Mooi begin van een nieuwe weduwen- en wezen-actie 😀

beautiful mature 1999 Volnay.
A little more agile compared to last time I tasted the 1999. At peak performance now 😊

1949 - these old Giroud wines are always fun to drink - still tons of life with beautiful texture and balance - this bottle rocked!

Given my love for pinots, I have been exploring Burgundy. Very different from American Pinot. Astringent at outset with some barnyard but dark fruit. Opened up after 2 hours astringency gone dark fruit forward. The French make really good wine!!

Very nice. A hint of wood after some air. Pretty heavy still, of plums and cherry - for a pinot. Birch?
