‘CRU’ Wairau Sauvignon Blanc 2019

I’m just now catching up on adding my notes on this! Smith & Sheth always makes me happy. Even just on the nose this SB puts on a show, ripe fruit and minerality dancing quite elegantly. On the palate the show goes on although you can’t watch it because the wine is in your mouth and you don’t have eyes there. I hope. I get good acid, an essence of effervescence and flowers, gooseberries and a mango event. I drink CRU up I do! — a month ago

Blind tasting, I might have guessed this was from Marlborough instead of Sancerre. Tilting much more towards tropical fruit than minerality, and I like it. — 5 days ago

Usually I don’t like SB, but by this age this all the stinky std smell had gone(no buxus, no cat litter sent), but it is traded for a much fuller matured taste. Ripe tropical fruits, still lots of fresh acids. Light caramel touch in the post taste. So, yes, perhaps no longer a typical mineral, fresh an flowery SB. I can do mineral, but the buxus lightness is not my cup of tea. So lots of videos for this 11 years old SB. Had it wit a green asparagus frittata, great combo. — 24 days ago

Silex Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Mid Lemon in colour. Initial touch of oxidation on nose which largely disappeared. Barb said aromas of Dandelion which is a lawn weed in Australia. Very minerally (from soil riddled with flint). Touch of pineapple. This is barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly Fume and as different as possible from Marlborough NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Great Intensity on the palate with the Oak in perfect balance. One of the 1001 wines. In the book “probably the greatest white made in the Upper Loire Valley”. I would like to try a younger vintage in the future. Made by the eccentric Didier Dagueneau. — 11 days ago

@Bob McDonald We happened across this exact wine in the early 2000's and were smitten ever since. I sought out large format bottles for safe keeping, every one has been epic and holding just fine. This bottle and the Pur Sang are our favorites. I almost got a pre-2008 Asteroide once, but it slipped through my fingers as I didn't react fast enough to secure. One day though...
