Very dark ruby color. Called Big d’ Big for a reason. Bold aromas of violets, pot pourri, leather and dark cherry. Intense flavors of black berry/cherry, figs, vanilla and baking spices. Firm tannins, full bodied and medium-plus acidity. Pretty well balanced. Aged in large barriques. This is a style of Barolo (very fruit forward) more suited to New World wine drinkers. Quite good. 100% verdicchio, delicious white, high alcohol content — 6 years ago
Wow. Fun, fun fun. Both the bottle and the wine. Really screwed with the drawer settings on my wine fridge though. Cherry and currants but enough tannins to stand up to Ragu or a piece of meat. — 8 years ago
Warming. Great with a fresh pie (rubirosa) — 9 years ago
Warm citrus leaf and basil on the nose. Hint of smokiness or even volcanic soil. Lovely round, rich fruit and almond finish. Great structure and pleasing complexity. — 10 years ago
Nice cidery fruit and pleasant bitterness definitely encourages further sips. — 11 years ago
Beautifully crafted. Dark plum and blackberry. Balanced minerals and organic finish. Slightly better than Sammarco. More delicate and nuanced. Exceeded expectations. — 7 months ago
Took 2 hours to open up completely. Umami and tar. Lovely showing! — 4 years ago

oddero's 1996 "rocche dei rivera di castiglione" falletto (today: mga "scarrone") did a fantastic job. an ultra classic and perfectly mature barolo. it does not reach the same heights as the 1996 "vigna rionda", "bussia-mondoca" or "rocche di castiglione" and it needed some time in decanter to open up. lots of dried flowers and berries, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite and road tar. the tannic backbone is very good and brings structure. the saturating minerals and acdity keep the wine very alive in the palate and in a nice finish. — 6 years ago
Great wine indeed. Nose is complex, camphor, dry amarena cherry, some flint, no oxidation not fading on this bottle yet.
On the palate, Fruit is gone for this bottle, wine is dominated by its tannic structure that is on the dry side, almost austere. I was expecting a fleshier, mellower tannin. Dry herbs, dry raisins, cherry again.
Long finish, good acidity that’s keeps the wine alive and well going.
Mitigate the intensity with proteins and juice/sauce.
Osso bucco with prunes will work. We did Fiorentina and it was ok. The crust and smokiness did not help, over exhibiting the dryness of tannins. — 8 years ago
Dominant oxidized sour cherry, dried rblack cherries. Med body, med p acid, med p intensity, med p tannin, fruit and tannin goes together but more structured. — 11 years ago

Great. With duck liver mousse and Orange Cranberry Mousse with Crackers. — 10 years ago
This wine is fantastic. Cherry. Big cherry. I drank this one after the 2009 base level Barolo... and this one really popped. Much fuller. Much bigger. Much rounder. Less tannins. Respectively speaking, this wine was an absolute monster. So happy I waited a few years before opening it. — 11 years ago

On the delicate side of Barolo. Touch of vanilla, baking spice along with the usual tar & roses, nice minerality, too. Decanted for a few hours, great with a rib-eye. Happy New Year! 12/31/2025 — 6 months ago
