Jumpin' Juice (Patrick Sullivan)

Half Full Pinot Blend 2021

This is a blend of syrah, cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.
The wine is red but completely translucid like a Tavel wine. The nose is funky with dome discreet barnyard notes, a typical herbaceous note that I associate with Sauvignon Blanc, some minerally notes like crushed rocks, pomegranate and strawberry too. Very interesting!
The palate shows a good acid drive, pomegranate and strawberry notes all along, some width, a soft and gentle mouthfeel that changes in the rear with some lively tannins that create another layer over a rather long and fruity finish with pomegranate and strawberry. It's fresh and fun, it's super easy going. Textbook glouglou wine. Enjoyed slightly chilled. 12,5% abv.

Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Our most favorite Pinot when we traveled Yara Valley last November. Intense vibrancy, fresh raspberry infused with cherry and carried by spice earth. All in perfect harmony. Love it!! — 2 months ago

A good choice.

Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

Funky, very sulphidic and smoky - very struck match …. but it works with nectarine notes. As I said in the previous note, Is this the best Chardonnay in Australia? Becoming hard to get when I bought a few bottles of the latest vintage a week ago. Like a quality Premier or Grand Cru white Burgundy. A medium bodied palate but the palate intensity is profound - off the charts. Soon I will have a blind tasting of 2015 Chardonnays with friends and include some Burgundies with wines like this, Leeuwin Estate, Heytesbury and Yattarna. — a month ago

Great bottle!! If not the best Chardonnay in Australia, it is up there with few others.
As you said it isn't the power, but the intensity of this wine that is so distinctive

Sangreal Pinot Noir 2021

A perennial favourite and always special. Nose and colour only hint at the depth and concentration of pure pinot goodness. Pure red and dark fruit wrapped in a shroud of prominent but fine tannin. Dark and brooding savoury spice. Exceptional length and juicy grip. Very fine — a month ago

Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Brief Notes. More full bodied showing luscious stone fruit notes than you normally get from this Cuvée. Full bodied and ripe - medium minus acid. Delicious and mouth filling - you can’t help but love this wine. — 2 months ago

Yarra Yering

Underhill Shiraz 2021

Pretty reduced, red fruits mostly, tannic and structured, also shows a distinct leafy green note (almost minty?), very fine length, needs cellaring. I’m probably underrating this, as in 5 years it may be lovely, the depth is there. — a month ago

Yarra Valley Syrah 2021

Pop and ppur yesterday. Notes from 24 hrs open unrefrigerated on the counter. On the nose: olive brine, cabbage, garrigue, blackberry, vaguely like a (WA/OR) Rocks district syrah. On the palate: lovely acidity, solid density, blackberry, earth, stewed cabbage. The juiciness is intense on the finish, almost overpowering the soft grainy tannin. A gorgeous btl. Yum. — a month ago

Bin No 1 Great Western Shiraz 2019

Meaty, charcuterie notes together with black and blue fruits. The palate is rich and savoury - full bodied on the earthy spectrum with ripe plum. Bests are an under the radar Gem in the Grampians. It should be a regular purchase particularly at the price. An average price of around $30. — 2 months ago

Sunbury Shiraz 2012

See previous note in June 2023 where I questioned the ripeness of the fruit. This has the trademark spice and pepper. Very little fruit, more savoury characters. From one of Australia’s leading cool climate wineries. As Jancis said, “a real sense of place “ - in this case the Macedon Ranges just north of Tullamarine Airport. Very different to SA Shiraz. Just medium bodied - a leathery note with balanced tannins. As in previous note a touch of astringency at the finish. — 2 months ago
