Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Lots of tar, tea, and maybe a bit of deep fruit, but I found it quite closed even after more than an hour uncorked. Tannins were still prominent but the wine was just not fragrant enough this time. I usually really love Phélan Ségur, this time it was just good. — 5 months ago

Château Gazin

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

AMAZING BORDEAUX that’s still able to shine, decanted, after a few hours of opening! In ritual notes of damp leather, subdued / dried fruits and felt past its prime. 2 hours later - completely blossomed into this robust, aged, beautiful almost “fruit forward” masterpiece with almost olive overtones. I’m sure it was a great bottle 10, 20, even 30 years ago - but now it’s almost better as it’s transformed into this subtle, wonderful wine which was able to hold its own against aged cheese and roasted beef. A true treasure I’m glad we uncorked!! (BTW - cork was LONG - get your longest screw out for this one)!!! — 4 years ago

You mean better not use coravin?

In the case of this wine, yes. This wine is much better when it is opened and the cork is removed.

Grand Cru Brand Riesling

Had his as a Guwerztraminer tasting event at Beetle Cat in Atlanta, hosted by the Southeast Sommelier Society. Gorgeous floral nose of peach blossoms, white rose petals and lychee. On the palette, this wine was impeccably balanced with lemon tart acidity cutting though the evident residual sugar. Succulent notes of fresh apricot, lychee and lemon tart to a long and refined finish. — 8 years ago

Vieux Château Certan

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

This was the last of 4 reds we had for our main course last night. A bin end from the Wine Society Dining Club won at the Xmas raffle. Certainly the best of the 4 good Full body, soft tannins, fruity great with beef wellington 😁. I decanted all 4 wines about 2.5 hours before drinking and felt it opened them all out - hope I can get more of this! I notice this app says buy at $195 and French wine is cheaper in USA than in the UK. Obvioulsy I was lucky getting this in the raffle. — 9 years ago

Col Solare

Collector's Society Red Mountain Malbec 2021

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.

Strong fruity nose and full bodied, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing black plums, cooked cherries, sweet blackberries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, peppercorn, tobacco leaf and black tea.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty Malbec from Red Mountain in Washington State. Extracted and fruit forward.

Still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years and see how it evolves.

Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Elegant and spicy.

A good sipping wine. Rich and in your face kind of wine.

A blend of 96% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in (60% New) French Oak barrels for 22 months. A small production of only 2,800 bottles.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$85.

@Roy Goble 👍 I’ll join the Realm list.
BTW, I think I heard you speak at a NCF event here in Louisville, KY. I have a copy of the Junkyard Wisdom book. Somehow you came up on my feed here on Delectable, and I thought the name was familiar. Small world. Cheers!

Brice

Bouzy Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2011

Uncorked ~30m, then ~15m rest in glass.

Nose has oxidized yellow apple, white flowers and fresh baked bread.
Palate has buttery yellow apple mash, oxidized strawberry, great mineral balance and a long finish.

I've finally met a Brice bottle I can fully embrace, this vintage selection is just perfect, approachable in its youth and quite elegant.

The Tumult Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2015

Digging it. The nose draws you in with breakfast country ham and cherry syrup. Honestly, feels like I’m driving up to a Denny’s. However, “old world” notes of forest floor - pine tree bark, dry leaves, and wood chips - develop. Acidity stays relevant, but doesn’t kick your ass. This is why I love Willamette; good fruit, but not boring and extracted. — 9 years ago

Ruleja Superiore Barbera d'Asti 2010

Overall great. Best to let it breathe for a bit at first - there was a strong tar vibe when I first uncorked it. Beyond that, a surprisingly light feel, with notes of plum and general savoryness. — 9 years ago

Dominio del Plata (Susana Balbo)

Private Edition for The Wine Society Red Blend

We just had the 2011 vintage and apparently it has nothing in common with prior vintages. Given time, super chocolate notes to start and later leather and tobacco flavors and nose come through. Not what I would typically expect of a malbec but a nice wine with a good rare steak...and pretty damn good with chicken — 8 years ago

Arkenstone

Obsidian Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Still holds the crown as my favorite Napa Cabernet. There were few questionable reviews on the 2006's out there, so I was a little nervous. Uncorked for 4-6 hours and then decanted for another ~1.5-2. She sipped nicely at first pop and once we poured at dinner she was ready to go. Velvety tannins. Long finish. Fruit definitely still there but more mellowed out. Melt in your mouth good. Looking forward to my last bottle in a few years. — 8 years ago
