It’s 10 years since Serge. Hochar’s death whilst swimming in Acapulco on NYE 2014 and I think it’s appropriate to celebrate his legacy that is the modern Chateau Musar.

Since my last 2011 4.5 years ago (see note) this has aged wonderfully and I’ve up my rating several points

Informal social gathering at my former director's place. Wine of the evening. Superb Kabinett with a bit of age on it, with the RS nicely digested by the acid drive of the wine. Superlative length and acid drive, great petroly notes on the nose. Long zesty finish. Lemonade for adults. Delicious wine! — 8 months ago

From the small Grosse Lage vineyard of Berncasteler Doctor, this Kabinnet tips the sweetness scale at medium dry for my taste, yet still manages to be delicate. Enticing nose of orchard and tropical fruits, honeysuckles, with touches of flinty mineral note. Very long finish. I think it needs at least another 4-5 years to show properly.
Interesting notes about the winery: it’s named after the widow of Dr. Thanisch (Wwe.). The original winery was divided into 2 equal properties in the 1990s: Wwe. H.Thanisch – Erben Thanisch and Wwe. H.Thanisch – Erben Müller-Burggraef. — 7 months ago
