Weeknight Bordeaux with a Neal Rosenthal back label. — 2 years ago
Neal rosenthal does it again....medium gold in the glass..12%...aromas of cut green grass, ripe plum, savory herbs. Round, vibrant acid-forward, bringing in a touch of green bitter stem on the finish. Perfect with simple lemon/fennel halibut, Roman artichoke, and fluffy gnocchi with lamb sugo. Long, lingering finish... so many great Italian high acid white varietals. — a year ago
Opening salvo in a night of delicious dinner courtesy of Howard Street Wine Merchants and Chef @Paul Kulik , the energy behind Le Bouillon. Our dinner guest was our friend John Paine from Rosenthal. Tonight was an evening of Burgundy, which outside of Chablis and Beaujolais, has always been a challenge for me. This was a delicious opener, if not an outlier. Regardless, a really tasty wine with bright red fruits of notable freshness. Not super complex but unique and always fun to drink Sancerre Rouge. — 3 years ago
Better on day 1 than day 2.
Wine Shop & Spectator notes as follows,
The white from Simone is a truly unique creation based primarily on Clairette that is supplemented with Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Ugni Blanc and a touch of Muscat Blanc. The white, brisk in its youth, animated by a bouquet of pine-resin, evolves slowly into a sensual masterpiece with its lingering finish built on a mass of minerality. This is a remarkably age-worthy wine with the potential to give ever-more pleasure over a span two decades or more." -Rosenthal Wine Merchants "Distinctive, with hints of singed almond and wet straw out front, followed by melon rind, dried chamomile, bitter orange and toasted shortbread notes. Offers a waxy feel through the finish, presenting a thread of bitter almond." -Wine Spectator — 4 months ago
Not a Lambrusco but performs as one- especially if you go room temperature & let the earthiness & more bitter notes come through. Has sweetness in balance. Went beautifully with orzo, pork/beef meatballs with Marcella Hazan recipe tomato sauce. Rosenthal importer — 2 years ago
Not sure I really want to call this Prosecco. I mean, yes it is Gera, and it’s Italian, and it even has bubbles but...they are the tiniest, most delicate bubbles - it’s almost frothy. And it is clean and full of lemon pith, minerality, the teeniest bit of orange cream, and is just not what I have come to know from Prosecco. It is a Rosenthal wine tho, so that explains a lot. This is fun. — 3 years ago
