Served blind by me at Sue Bell’s dinner party with Bruce Redman. After being tricked by Sue all week with blind tastings at the winery I was determined to get square. She was up to the task getting just the state wrong. Once I said Adelaide Hills she knew it was a Gruner. Hahndorf Hill are acknowledged as the best producers of Gruner in Australia. Taking its lead from the GV’s of Austria’s Kamptal region. Grapefruit, Citrus and stone fruit. A multi award winner on the Australian Show circuit. A gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards London 2020. — 4 years ago

From a 6 Litre Imperial. Surprisingly developed coming from such a huge bottle from one of the oldest producers in the Coonawarra in REDMAN. Still had the Coonawarra mint chocolate and blackberry but also showing Leather earthy savoury notes. An old school style. — 7 years ago

Had this at Peppers in Penola during dinner. A deliciously full-bodied wine with dark macerated fruits, leather, and classic Australian earthiness. The tannins were firm yet well-integrated, and the warmth added richness to the overall profile. The story—a collaboration between two historic Coonawarra families—adds to its appeal, and the terroir shines through with depth and character. A memorable bottle that truly delivered. — 20 days ago
