Redman Wines

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

We shared this wine with Bruce Redman and his wife Winnie, who brought it to Sue Bell’s dinner party at her house In Penola a week ago. The Redman family’s wine heritage in Coonawarra goes back 113 years to Bruce’s grandfather Bill Redman in 1908. A privilege to break bread with Coonawarra Royalty. Bruce graduated from Roseworthy and spent 2 vintages in Bordeaux before returning to the family winery. This 2013 came from a good vintage with great structure for the long haul. Showing good black currant intensity with leafy, minty, notes on a medium weight palate. Still a long way to go. — a year ago

Claret Shiraz 1975

Great character, Shiraz that talks Coonawarra slang, tobacco, nutmeg, classic terra rossa minerality, leather, walnuts and little 🍒 cherries under spirit.
Still quite enjoyable,👍.

Hahndorf Hill Winery

GRU Adelaide Hills Grüner Veltliner 2019

Served blind by me at Sue Bell’s dinner party with Bruce Redman. After being tricked by Sue all week with blind tastings at the winery I was determined to get square. She was up to the task getting just the state wrong. Once I said Adelaide Hills she knew it was a Gruner. Hahndorf Hill are acknowledged as the best producers of Gruner in Australia. Taking its lead from the GV’s of Austria’s Kamptal region. Grapefruit, Citrus and stone fruit. A multi award winner on the Australian Show circuit. A gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards London 2020. — a year ago

@Bob McDonald have only had their Cabernet (which was quite delicious). Will have to find a bottle.

@Simon Gilligan Quite close to a cellar door visit from where you live. Worth the trip to taste all their GVs. I was a bit disappointed with their Blaufrankisch but I don’t have much experience with this varietal.

Barking Rocks

Casena Merlot Blend 2007

Not a bad drop. Owners wife recommended this one in substitution for my favorite Redman. Pretty good through the entire bottle and gets better as you go. Still miss the Redman though. Little bit dryer. Non acidic. No indigestion. No alcohol punch just a smooth Jesus Juice. — 6 years ago
